LEE OPENS SUNDAY WITH GOVERNORS CUP 150 FOR LATE MODELS

With the Honorable Governor of the State of New Hampshire John Lynch expected to be on hand, Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH opens for the season this weekend. A special two day event, qualifying races will be staged on Saturday April 21, with feature races slated for Sunday April 22. The main event, paying $5,000 to win, is the “Governors Cup 150,” a special race for Late Model stock cars, the premier weekly class at the Rte 125 oval. Its competitors will compete under the NASCAR sanction again this season in the all new Whelen All American Series.

Expected entries include defending champion JR Baril, Haverhill, MA., winner of last years hotly contested run for the title, former NASCAR and Lee champ, Ricky Wolf, Barrington, NH., another former Lee champion Dean Weber, young chargers Jeremy Harclerode, and Brian Kruczek, Newmarket, NH., and Barrington’s Katrina Canney. American-Canadian Tour hot shoe Jamie Fisher, Shelburne, VT, Mark Anzalone, Malden, MA. Lee veterans Ron Harkins, Tom Fuller, and newcomer Miles Chipman.

In addition to the headlining late models, the tracks weekly divisions will also be in action. Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Roadrunners will also be part of the lineup for the special two day event. There has been a lot of movement in those divisions with a great deal of interest in the always exciting street stocks. Defending champion Boe Green, Berwick, ME., will contend with the likes of former champion Wayne Whitten Jr, Kennebunk, ME., Bobby Melvin, Groton, MA., Jason Marr, Haverhill, MA., and 14 year veteran Myra Fowler, Seabrook, NH.

Pat Tanguay, a former roadrunner racer, debuts in the unpredictable hobby stock division while Shawn Marcotte, Raymond, NH, returns for another season of roadrunner action.

Grandstand seating opens at 10 AM both days with practice sessions on Saturday beginning at 12noon. Heat races to determine starting lineups for Sundays feature races will begin at 2PM. On Sunday, feature races will begin at 12 noon. For additional information, log on to www.leeusaspeedway.com
