(Hermon, Me) The forecast called for a 70% chance of rain, and dark clouds loomed over the race track, never-the-less, Mother Nature cut Speedway 95 a break, and held off the showers for another week of racing at Maine’s Family Fun Track.

The Strictly Street Division held their first series race of the season, with Derek Mingo of Lamoine leading the way for all 35 laps. The most intense action of the race was behind the leader, as Jim Carr, Jr. of Clifton and Shawn Sperrey of Hermon battled side by side for the second spot, right down to the checkered flag. In the end, Sperrey nudge ahead of Carr to earn the second spot, and Carr finished third. The battle for third and fourth was tight too, with Rowland Robinson, Jr. of Steuben taking fourth, just ahead of Ellsworth’s Brad Norris.

Defending champion John Phippen Jr, of Town Hill had to fight hard to grab the win in The Dysart’s Sportsman ProStock division. Phippen spent the first 28 laps fighting off a charge from Dale Swoboda of Hermon, until Swoboda spun on a slick racetrack and Paul White of Corrina took over the side by side racing in the second spot. Phippen held off White for the win while Greg Morse of St. Albans worked his way into the third spot.

Pole Sitter Brenton Parritt of Steuben lead from Green to Checkers in the Limited Sportsman, with Deane Smart of Bradley some distance back for second. Joe Allard of Glenburn crossed the line in third in the caution free race.

“Smokin’” Joe Legere of Milford earned his second win in a row in the Super Street division, earning the win ahead of defending champion John Kalel, II. Steve Moulton of Glenburn finished the race in the third spot. Greg Pung of Franklin led much of the race before losing steam and falling back to a fourth place finish.

Mike Hopkins of Hermon broke the winning streak of Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont in the Sport Four division. Batchelder started at the back, and spun out in turn four of the first lap. Batchelder worked his way towards the front but was unable to break into the top five before the laps ran out. Pole sitter Andrew Crosby of Hermon led a good portion of the race before being passed on the inside by Hopkins. Dave Shorey of Old Town took third in a green-white-checkered finish.
