Scarborough,Maine- Steve Carrier won a tough 40 lap NASCAR Pro Series feature race on Sunday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and Scott Dorr controlled the field to score the NASCAR Sport Series 35 lap win.
Matt Wyman and Kelsey Babb scored opening day feature wins in the Wildcat and Road Runner divisions. Bill Whorff Jr led the 20 car Pro Series field to the green flag but Bub Bilodeau got the jump and took the lead. Bilodeau paced the field to the caution on lap 10 where Steve Carrier became a player on the restart. Carrier and Bilodeau went side by side for the next 4 laps with Carrier a nose in front at the line until he got loose exiting turn 2 on lap 16 handing the lead back to Bilodeau. Carrier took the next few laps to regroup and made another charge at Bilodeau pulling to the outside of the leader on lap 21. It only took Carrier 2 more laps to complete the pass relegating Bilodeau back to the second position. The race would be slowed 3 times on lap 30 for incidents but Carrier had the horses to take the opening day win. Dan McKeage made a late race charge to finish second with Bilodeau third. Bill Whorff was fourth and Bobby Babb fifth. Scott Dorr completely dusted the 30 car Sport Series main event on Sunday. Dorr took the lead on the opening circuit and pulled away from the field. A caution flag on lap 16 gave Don Colpritt a shot at the leader but was no match for Dorr as he again opened up a comfortable lead. Dorr went on to the easy win over Colpritt in second place and Jason Larrabee third. Clyde Hennessey finished fourth and reigning champion Mike Landry was fifth. Matt Wyman won his first Wildcat race by being in the right position at the right time. Jesse Tolman led the opening laps and appeared to be on his way to an easy win. The day ended for Tolman on lap 19 when a mechanical problem forced him to retire to the pit area handing the lead and eventual win to Wyman who was running second at the time. Wyman led the final 11 laps for the win over Scott Grant in second and Cole Watson third. Steve Coffin and David Wildes filled the fourth and fifth position. Kelsey Babb won the 20 lap Road Runner race after a spirited battle with Tim Caswell over the final 2 laps. With Babb leading and Caswell second they approached slower traffic as Babb made the move to the outside of the slower cars just as the driver moved to the outside sending Babb up the track. Caswell went to the inside but Babb fought back and wound up taking the win over Caswell who was second. Ed Connolly was third and Todd Lefebvre and Paul Lund were next across the finish line. Beech Ridge switches to the Saturday night schedule this week for the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series starting at 6:30pm.
