100-lap race to serve as final tune-up for $150,000 TD Banknorth 250

OXFORD, ME – Oxford Plains Speedway promoter Bill Ryan has added a 100-lap American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car championship event to his race schedule on Saturday, July 7, filling a void created by a pair of ACT Late Model Tour events cancelled earlier in the week.  Ryan and ACT President Tom Curley agreed to organize the race following the announcement that events at Quebec’s Circuit Ste-Croix and Sanair Super Speedway were dropped from the ACT Late Model Tour schedule.

The Time Warner Cable 100 will award championship points for the ACT Late Model Tour, and will provide an extra chance for race teams to prepare for the $150,000 TD Banknorth 250 on Sunday, July 22.

“We are more than happy to have ACT back at Oxford Plains Speedway any time we can,” said Ryan.  “Late Model racing in New England is strong and healthy, and I think adding the Time Warner Cable 100 to the ACT Late Model Tour schedule will be good for everyone.”

Veteran underdog racer Randy Potter of Groveton, NH won the ACT Late Model Tour’s 2007 season opener at Oxford Plains Speedway in April, taking his first career ACT and OPS victory.  Graniteville, VT’s John Donahue, a regular ACT competitor and Thunder Road (VT) Speedbowl veteran, scored a $2,500 win at OPS on June 10 as part of the $300,000 L-A Harley Davidson Late Model Challenge Series at the Maine oval this season.  Both fields contained superstar racers including multi-time New England stock car champions Mike Rowe, Jean-Paul Cyr, and Brian Hoar, as well as Oxford Plains Speedway champions Travis Adams, Ricky Rolfe, Scott Robbins, and more.

“Of course, we at Oxford want to see one of our home drivers beat the ACT champions, and we feel that there are many that can,” Ryan said.  “Shawn Martin and Ricky Rolfe have done it in the past, and I think a driver like Travis Adams could really get it done on July 7.  His program is very good right now, and he has what it takes to beat the Jean-Paul Cyrs and the Mike Rowes of the Late Model world.”

The Time Warner Cable 100 is scheduled for Saturday, July 7 at 6:30 pm.  Oxford Plains Speedway is conveniently located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME, with plenty of parking and general admission seating.  For more information, call ACT at (802) 244-6963 or visit www.acttour.com.
