(Hermon, Me) When the dust cleared from the Monster Truck action at Speedway 95, the final Sunday of racing at Maine’s Family Fun track took to the track, with racing in all 5 divisions.
It was a caution-fest for the first race in the Sport Four series, with a division record setting 8 cautions over 35-laps. Mike Hopkins of Hermon led the field to the checkered flag, but was disqualified in a post race inspection, handing the win to David Green of Hampden. Green battled in the closing laps with Spencer Garvin of Belfast, who settled for an inherited second place finish. Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont was awarded third.
Despite a number of close calls, the Dysart’s Sportsman ProStocks went caution-free. Ryan Deane of Winterport started on the pole, but faded in the early going placing Paul White of Corinna at the front of the field. A lapped car cause White to spin, put defending champion John Phippen, Jr. of Town Hill in a position to grab the top spot and take his second win in a row, & forcing Paul White into the third spot. Dale Swoboda of Hermon, also took advantage of situation, & moved up to finish in second place.
There were two cautions in the Limited Sportsman division. The first caution came at lap 14 for debris, and second at lap 15 for oil on the track. Brenton Parritt of Steuben earned the win, with Bobby Seger, Jr. of Frankfort in second. Deane Smart of Bradley crossed the line in the third spot.
Much like the ProStocks, the Super Street division had a number of close calls, however, the field managed to avoid any major incident and finished the race, caution free. Keith Pierce of Hudson lead all but two laps of the race, unfortunately for Hudson, he spun out in the final lap, handing the win over to Joe Legere of Milford. Kris Watson of Hermon earned second, and Steve Moulton of Glenburn fought off defending champion John Kalel, II of Orrington to finish in third.
The Strictly Streets when caution free, Pole sitter, Jim Carr, Jr. of Clifton earned the win, with Brad Norris of Ellsworth in second, and outside pole sitter Shawn Hamel of Bangor third. Hamel had to fight off a hard charge from Hermon’s Shawn Sperrey who finished the race fourth.
