BARRE, VT – The annual Fisher/Federated Auto Parts stock car event at Barre’s Thunder Road on Thursday (July 19) will be chock full of action.  In addition to championship events for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models, Tiger Sportsmen, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Power Shift Junkyard Warriors, a pair of special events will fill the card.

The inaugural “Media Madness” race and a preview for the 23rd Annual M&M Beverage Enduro 200 will highlight the night’s program.  Even with the added attractions, Thunder Road’s traditionally low regular general admission prices will remain in effect at only $9 for adults, $3 for kids, and just $18 for a family of four – the best family entertainment value in Vermont.  Post time is scheduled for 7:00pm, with preliminary events at 6:30pm.

The inaugural “Media Madness” race will feature members of the television, radio, print, and Internet news media in Junkyard Warrior racers.  Included in the entrants for the race are Mike McGill of WCAX-TV Sports (CBS 3, Burlington, VT), Jamie Scavotto of WPTZ-TV Sports (NBC 5, Plattsburgh, NY), “Jumpin’ Jim” of Froggy 100.9 FM, Anna Grearson, sports writer for the Barre-Montpelier (VT) Times Argus, and Mike Twist of short track racing news website Speed51.com.

The trash talking has already begun between the television sportscasters.
“All I want to do is beat McGill,” said Scavotto.
“All I want to do is make fun of Scavotto when he loses to me,” McGill replied.

A special preview to the 23rd Annual M&M Beverage Enduro 200 is also on tap for the first 20 entrants into the Sunday, July 29 event.  The Enduro is a “survival” race for amateur drivers in virtually street-legal machines.  Over 100 cars will start the race, with the first driver to complete 200 laps earning a cool $2,000 prize.

Expected for the Enduro preview are Nick Lawrence of Grand Isle, Anthony Chauvin of Hyde Park, Phillip Mullen of Cambridge, Paul Wells of Enosburg, and M&M Beverage Enduro 200 legend “Dipstick” Don Tofani of Plainfield.

Post time for the Fisher/Federated Auto Parts event at “The Nation’s Site of Excitement,” Barre’s Thunder Road, is 7:00pm on Thursday, July 19.  Preliminary qualifying heat races for the Street Stocks and Warriors will take place at 6:30pm.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
