BARRE, VT – Kinney Drugs will present the final Thursday night stock car racing program of the summer at Barre’s Thunder Road this Thursday, August 23 at 6:30pm.  With only two championship events remaining for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model division, the 2007 “King of the Road” title chase is the closest in Thunder Road’s storied 48-year history.

Only seven points separate former Thunder Road Champion Jamie “Hurricane” Fisher of Shelburne,
Montpelier’s Dave Pbroke, and three-time “King of the Road” Cris Michaud of Williamstown entering Thursday’s Kinney Drugs event.  Never before has a three-way Thunder Road title chase been so close with only a pair of races left on the schedule.

“The fans have been telling me that it’s a good show between the three of us,” said Michaud, who won Thunder Road titles in 2001, 2004, and 2005.  “We’re all good racers, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch things unfold over the next two weeks.  Our teams are all preparing our cars the best we can, and all we need is some good luck to go along with our efforts.”

While the trio is linked by just seven points, Phil Scott and Joey Becker remain within striking distance, each less than 60 points out of the lead.  In fact, the entire Top 10 drivers have only 104 points between them.

Michaud made note of that fact, adding, “Anything can happen at any time, especially at Thunder Road.”   Nick Sweet continues to lead the NAPA Tiger Sportsman standings with four championship events remaining for his division.  Lloyd Blakely and Bunker Hodgdon pace the Allen Lumber Street Stock and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions, respectively, with four events remaining.

The annual Kinney Drugs Kids Poster Contest highlights Thursday’s activities.  Posters must be hand-crafted, with no computer-generated graphics or photographs.  Kids are encouraged to be creative and use as many mediums as they wish – paint, markers, pencils, pens, crayons, charcoal, chalk, paper, poster board, construction paper… anything is possible!  Prizes will be awarded in three age groups: 6 & under, 7-9, and 10-12.  Create a poster of your favorite driver at Thunder Road, and show it off at “The Nation’s Site of Excitement!”

General admission for Kinney Drugs Night – the final Thursday night race of the season – is only $9 for adults, $3 for children (6-12, kids under 6 get in free), and just $18 for a family ticket, good for any two adults and two kids.  Gates open at 4:30pm, racing action begins at 6:30pm.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
