OXFORD, ME – Parity has perhaps never been more prevalent in American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racing than in 2007. After the first seven events of the ACT Late Model Tour championship schedule, no driver has been able to repeat as a race winner. In fact, four drivers have earned the first ACT victories of their careers in 2007, including Randy Potter of Groveton, NH.
Potter dominated the season-opening New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway in April, and will try to become the first multi-time winner of the season as the ACT Late Model Tour returns to the famous 3/8-mile oval for the previously rained-out Time Warner Cable 100 on Saturday.
“I can’t wait to get back to Oxford this weekend,” said Potter, whose P&R Excavating Services Chevrolet was one of 49 Late Model cars in the pit area during the first attempt at running the Time Warner Cable 100 on July 7. “Our new Race Basics chassis is strong this year, especially at Oxford. Every time I’ve gotten out of the car there I’ve had a smile on my face. When the race was called for rain back in July, it was like canceling Christmas for this team, we were so disappointed.”
Considered by many as an underdog entering 2007, Potter has remained consistent since his April victory, and ranks second overall behind six-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT. Vermonters Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, and Brian Hoar hold positions three through five. All told, Potter has racked up three top-five and six top-ten finishes in his seven starts this year, and was impressive in the $150,000 TD Banknorth 250 at OPS last
month.
Potter, Cyr, and recent Seekonk (MA) Speedway winner Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH are among the favorites to win the Time Warner Cable 100, the eighth championship round for the ACT Late Model Tour, on Saturday at Oxford Plains Speedway at 6:30pm. The Time Warner Cable 100 is also the fourth of five events in the L/A Harley Davidson Challenge Series at OPS. ACT’s “Rocket” Roger Brown leads the standings over fellow ACT driver David Avery and OPS regulars Ricky Rolfe and Doug Coombs. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME.
