Speedway 95 News Release
08-26-07
By Bill DaButler
(Hermon, Me) It was a busy weekend of racing at Speedway 95, with racing both Saturday, and Sunday, with rain spoiling a little of the action on Saturday Night
The Pro-All Stars were in town Saturday for a 150 lap event, and brought the PASS MODS along for the ride. Gary Norris, Jr. was the winner in the Mods, with Chris Staples second and Chris Smith third. Richie Dearborn earned the win in the PASS Super Late Model 150, with Trevor Sandborn, second, and Scott Chubbuck in third.
The Dysart’s Pro-Stocks completed 19 laps Saturday, when Greg Morse of St. Albans, and Ryan Deane of Winterport collided in the front stretch drawing out a red flag. Both cars were in rough shape, but the #02 of Greg Morse was completely demolished, and Morse was sent to the hospital with a mild concussion. Then, the rain started to fall, causing the race to be called as complete. John Phippen, Jr. of Town Hill was declared the winner, and took over the point’s lead, with Gary Smith of Bangor credited with second, and Paul White of Corinna in third.
On Saturday Jim Carr, Jr. of Clifton earned the win from the pole in the Strictly Streets, ahead of point’s leader Rowland “J.R. Rockin’” Robinson, and Ellsworth’s Brad Norris. The win breaks Robinson streak of 3 race wins, and was Car’s first win since July 28th. The top three cars in Sunday’s caution-free Strictly Street race were DQ-ed in post race inspection, handing the win over to Lamoine’s Derek Mingo, sliding Robinson into the second place finish, and Carr into third. The original top three before DQ’s were Tim Daggett of Alton, Brad Norris, Of Ellsworth, and Shawn Hamel, or Bangor.
A lapped car between the two leaders in Saturday’s Sport-Four race put the top spot in the hands of Mike Hopkins of Hermon, making it his 5th win in a row. David Green of Hampden finished the race in second, and point’s leader Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont took third. Green went on to break Hopkins’ streak on Sunday, posting the win for that race. At lap 16 Rick Grant of Legrange led the way, but spun out in turn 2, however, Grant was able to get back underway, and as luck would have it, another driver spun in turn four, allowing Grant to get his spot back for restart and finish second. Hopkins finished the night in third.
Sunday’s Limited race had Brenton Parritt of Steuben on the pole, and at the checkered flag, Parritt had earned a half-track lead over second place Deane Smart of Bradley. Rookie Frank Moulton of Unity crossed the line in third. Saturday’s rain delayed race will be made up on Saturday September 1st. Parritt is the point's leader for the division.
In the Super Streets, Kris Watson took the pole and the win in Sunday’s feature, over defending champion, John Kalel, II. Outside pole sitter Greg Pung of Franklin finished third in the caution free race. . Saturday’s rain delayed race will also be made up on Saturday September 1st. The finish keeps Kalel in the point's lead by 10 point's over Steve Moulton of Glenburn.
