WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 9/2/07

PINKHAM AND TRASK TAKE LABOR DAY WEEKEND TWIN 100’S AT WISCASSET

The biggest win of Bill Pinkham’s long career literally dropped in his lap in the closing moments of the 100 lap LMS co-main event and Chelsea’s “Cowboy” Dan Trask took on all challengers to lead the 100 lap Super Street feature wire to wire Saturday night at Wiscasset Raceway. The Labor Day weekend twin 100’s highlighted the final night race of the season in front of another large crowd at Maine’s “Center of Speed”.

In the 100 lapper for the Smith Construction Late Model Sportsman, Pinkham picked his way up from 16th into the top five by lap 40 and then patiently stalked the leaders waiting for a chance to strike. The opportunity came on lap 94 when the lead pair of Puncin St Clair and Steve Reny tangled in turn three in a heated battle for the win. In the process, 3rd place car Dennis Spencer was collected along with Josh St Clair. Pinkham would inherit the lead for the 6th and final restart and he would hold off rookie Kevin Sherman to collect the big win and the $3000 payoff. Sherman, who was involved in an early race spin, recovered to claim the 2nd place trophy. Freedom’s Randy Turner rebounded from a flat tire on a lap 55 restart and passed Dave St Clair with two laps to go for the 3rd place finish. St Clair settled for 4th and Nick Jenkins of Milo finished 5th in his first race at Wiscasset. In the 100 lap co-main for the Super Streets, Chelsea’s “Cowboy” Dan Trask started from the pole position and withstood six restarts and relentless pressure from four different drivers to claim the $1000 winner’s check and his first win since April of 2006. Brian Fortin, Adam Chadbourne, Josh Bailey and Mac Hannan Jr all took shots at the leader and were not able to get around him or loosen his hold on the inside groove. In a mad scramble to the checkers Trask took the win by a car length with Hannan and Bailey side by side for 2nd and 3rd. Hannan laid back in the field over the first half of race and then picked his way to the lead pack with ten laps to go. Josh Bailey spent the final ten laps on the outside of Hannan and Trask and his 3rd place finish was a career best. Dresden’s Allen Moeller finished 4th with Mike Moody of Bath taking 5th. In the 50 lap feature for the Clark Car Crushing Prostocks Oakland’s Jeff Burgess tossed aside four weeks of tough luck and passed Matt Lee on the outside coming out of the final turn to pick up the win by just a half car length. For Burgess it was his first Wiscasset Prostock win since May of 2003. Matt Lee would finish 2nd for the second straight week. Wiscasset’s Chuck Colby started 7th and finished 3rd. Ian Bresnahan of Bath held off multi-time champ Maurice Young to pick up his first career win in the 25 lap Strictly Street feature. Young finished 2nd with defending champ Dave Brannon on his heals for 3rd. There was a shake-up in the finish order of the 25-lap Stock Mini feature as three of the top four drivers failed post race inspection, including apparent winner Mike Wilson and runner-up Bryan Lancaster. The win would be award to point leader Kevin Douglass for his 7th win of the year. Defending champ Shawn Kimball would be awarded 2nd followed by Richmond’s Mike Dulaney in 3rd. Other winners on the evening included Tyler Tibbetts of Montville in the Teen Division; Marje Albert of Chelsea in the Ladies Division; and Jacob Dore of Sanford in the NELCAR Legends. Wiscasset Raceway returns to action Saturday September 8th at 2:00pm with a full show sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and the Central Maine Auto Group. The highlight of the show will include a 100 lap main event for the Clark Car Crushing Prostocks. For more information, check the raceway website at www.wiscassetraceway.us.
