INEX-Sanctioned Event at Concord Motorsport Park Filled With Big Purses and Awards

CONCORD, NC (October 17, 2007) – Last year a new racing tradition was born in the South.  PASS South held the inaugural “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” event at South Boston Speedway (VA) on Thanksgiving weekend for Super Late Models and a number of support divisions.  One of those support divisions was the Legends Cars.  Nearly 50 Semi-Pro, Pro and Masters drivers joined the racing action at the historic 4/10-mile oval, making the event a success.

This year, PASS South officials will continue the tradition with a change of venue and the addition of Bandoleros to the Legends Car portion of the event.  The event will be INEX-sanctioned.

The Second-Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will take place Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, North Carolina.  While the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS/Rolling Thunder Modifieds, Thunder Roadsters and Allison Legacy Series cars will run their races on the half-mile tri-oval on Saturday, the Legends and Bandoleros will run their features Friday night on the quarter-mile track just behind the speedway.

“The Legends drivers put on a great show in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown last year,” said Tom Mayberry, owner and promoter of PASS South.  “With the addition of the Bandoleros to the program and having the race in the backyard of 600 Racing and INEX at Concord Motorsport Park, it is going to make for some exciting racing.”

Throughout the 2007 racing season at Concord Motorsport Park, nearly 200 Legends and Bandolero drivers wheeled their way around the facility.  With money and awards on the line, the INEX-sanctioned portion of the Mason-Dixon Meltdown is set to be one of the biggest and most exciting events in the nation of Legends and Bandolero racing.

Besides bragging rights to win in front of a large crowd, Legends drivers will be racing for their lion’s share of big-money purses, including $1,000-to-win the Masters & Pro combined 50-lap feature and $600-to-win the Semi-Pro 50-lap feature.  Awards will also be given out to the winners of the 25-lap Bandolero Bandits feature and the Bandolero Young Guns & Outlaws combined feature.

Last year, Thomas Hartensveld won the Semi-Pro Legends portion of the Meltdown, while Casey Roderick won the Pro & Masters race.  Hartensveld has since moved up to Late Model Stocks this season and will not be returning to defend his Meltdown title, but Roderick will.  In 2006, Roderick gained momentum going into the Meltdown by winning the Legends Asphalt Nationals at Lanier National Speedway (GA) a few weeks prior to the event.  This year, Roderick looks to do the same as he recently won the 2007 Asphalt Nationals at The Bullring At Las Vegas Motor Speedway (NV).

“Winning last year’s Mason-Dixon Meltdown race was pretty awesome since I just won the Nationals a few weeks earlier,” said Roderick.  “I was able to win this year’s Nationals this past weekend and I am looking to race the Meltdown and win again.”

The pit gates open at 1:00 pm Friday with alternating practice running from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.  Heat races will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by Consi races and the features.  The complete schedule and Legends entry blanks (Bandoleros do not need to register) can be found on the official website for the Mason-Dixon Meltdown at www.MasonDixonMeltdown.com
