WATERBURY, VT – The American-Canadian Tour stock car racing organization has announced the hiring of six new officials to help oversee operations with the ACT Late Model Tour, the Série ACT Castrol, and Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, VT.

Kevin Farrar of Lewiston, ME, and his wife, Eve Worcester, will take on important roles in the 2008 racing season.  Farrar will handle handicapping duties for the ACT Late Model Tour, including race-day registration and event lineups.  Farrar served as handicapper for Oxford Plains Speedway in his native Maine from 1994-2005, and worked with ACT last fall.  Worcester will be part of the scoring staff.

“I took two seasons off, but I was asked to work at Thunder Road’s Chittenden Milk Bowl last year,” said Farrar.  “One call from (ACT President) Tom Curley is all it took to get me hooked again!  Eve and I are excited about joining the ACT staff, and are looking forward to the experience.”

Jessie Blake of Barre, VT will handle handicapping duties at Thunder Road.  Blake is the daughter of former “King of the Road” Track Champion Greg “Burger” Blake, and the sister of NAPA Tiger Sportsman rookie Cody Blake.

Lynn Nielsen of Williamstown, VT will serve as Chief Scorer at Thunder Road.  Nielsen is considered to be one of the leading scorers in northeastern short track racing, and rejoins the ACT staff after several seasons off.

Long-time race official Marvin Galarneau of Barre, VT and Julie Roberts of Mooers Forks, NY will also
assist in scoring Thunder Road and ACT events.  Galarneau is a veteran of 40 years in the industry, and has held similar roles at Oxford Plains Speedway, New Hampshire’s Riverside Speedway, and the Vermont-based Northeastern Kart Club.  Roberts is the wife of multi-time ACT Late Model Tour race winner Mark Lamberton, and brings a wealth of knowledge of the sport.

ACT President Curley said that due to an odd off-season, the need for increased staffing became quickly apparent.

“I can’t recall an off-season as quirky as the one we’ve just been through, in terms of the staffing at ACT and Thunder Road,” he said.  “Two of our veteran scorers retired from the sport, and our other two are expecting the births of their first children during the busiest time of our race year.  I am very confident that Lynn, Marvin, Eve, and Julie will pick up right where we left off, and Kevin Farrar and Jessie Blake will be great additions as well.”

The ACT Late Model Tour season kicks off with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup at Lee USA Speedway on Sun., April 20 and the New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Sat., April 26.  Thunder Road’s 49th season opens with the 10th Annual Merchants Bank 150 on Sat./Sun., May 3/4.  The Série ACT Castrol opens on Sun., May 18 at Autodrome St-Eustache near Montréal.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.acttour.com or www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
