BARRE, VT – Harvest Equipment will present the annual Mother’s Day stock car racing special at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, May 11… but with a twist.  As part of Harvest Equipment’s involvement with the event, a special six-Mom Lawn Mower Race will be held in the infield of the race track.

      Moms will be chosen to participate in the lawn mower race based on essays sent to the Thunder Road office by their children.  Kids – here’s what you have to do: Write a short essay explaining why your mom should be chosen for the Lawn Mower Race at Thunder Road.  Email your essay to media@acttour.com, fax it to (802) 244-6963,or send it by mail to: Mother’s Day Contest, P.O. Box 296, Waterbury, VT 05676, but make sure your entry is in no
later than 5:00pm on Thursday, May 8.  Winning moms will be notified on Friday, May 9.  Kids, please include your mom’s name and a daytime phone number in your essay.

       Moms will compete in the Lawn Mower Race while riding on John Deere lawn tractors provided by Harvest Equipment.  The first mom to complete her mowing section, sit in a comfy lawn chair, and open an ice cold Pepsi will be the winner.  Each mom in the race will also receive a bouquet of flowers.

       Kids will be rewarded for their hard work with rides in a Thunder Road race car and free photos for Mom from David Heath Photography.  Kids’ race car rides will be held from 2-3pm, and are open to all children age 12 and under.

       The Harvest Equipment Mother’s Day Special will be the second event of Thunder Road’s 49th season, and will also be the first weekly championship event for the ACT Late Model division.  Dave Pembroke of Middlesex, the third-place finisher at last Sunday’s Merchants Bank 150, is the defending Late Model “King of the Road” Track Champion.  Scott Coburn of Barre leads the NAPA Tiger Sportsman division point standings following his opening day victory, while Graniteville’s Dave LaFleche and Waterbury’s Neal Foster lead the Allen Lumber Street Stock and Power Shift Online Junkyard Warrior divisions, respectively. 

       General admission for the Harvest Equipment Mother’s Day Special on Sunday, May 11 is only $9.50 for adults, $3 for children (6-12), and just $20 for a family of four.  Gates open at 1:30pm, with kids’ rides from 2-3pm, and racing action beginning at 5pm.  Thunder Road is located on Fisher Road atop Quarry Hill in Barre, VT.
