Scarborough, Maine- The NASCAR Whelan All American Series returned to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday night and when the fast paced show was over Steve Carrier and Frank Wear took top division feature race victories.
Joining Carrier and Wear in victory lane on this night were Gary Babineau in the Wildcat division and Trevor Graffam in the Road Runners.
Shawn Twomey paced the field of Pro Series drivers to the green flag as he led the opening 9 laps of the race. Steve Carrier made his move for the lead on the next circuit to take over the top spot and began to open up a comfortable lead.
The remainder of the race was clean with no cautions allowing Carrier to secure the relatively easy win over Bub Bilodeau who was second. Bobby Babb, Twomey and David Oliver completed the top five positions following the 40 lap run.
The caution filled Sport Series main event was up next and after Travis Buzzell and Dave Lampron spent the first 7 laps taking turns as the leader, Lampron finally assumed the lead spot. The second of 7 caution flags waved on lap 17 allowing Frank Wear to move into contention with the leaders.
Lampron and Wear would spent the next 5 laps and 3 caution flags in a side by side duel for the lead until Wear was able to complete the pass at lap 24. After 2 more caution flags the checkered finally waved over Wear for the victory with Clyde Hennessey crossing the finish line second but he received a 2 position penalty for jumping to the outside of the car in front of him during a single file restart.
This penalty moved Bobby Nadeau to second and Reggie Leeman to third with Hennessey getting credit for fourth. Travis Buzzell was awarded fifth after Dave Lampron was assessed the same penalty as Hennessey for his infraction during the final restart.
Gary Babineau led from start to finish to take the Wildcat feature race win which was run just the opposite as last weeks race as this week there were no caution flags in the 30 lap event. Babineau opened up a big lead during the early laps but once Lyman McKeage cleared traffic he started to close the gap.
Babineau had more than enough left in the car as he took the win over McKeage and Ron Corbeil. Scott Grant and David Wildes rounded out the top 5 positions following the checkered flag.
The Road Runner feature race found Trevor Graffam in victory lane for the entry level division following 20 laps of competition. Dan Bernier led the first 4 laps until Graffam made a 3 wide pass for the lead. Once in front Graffam held off Ed Pierce and Shawn Brackett for the win. Mark Hill and David Palmer filled the fourth and fifth spots.
