OXFORD, Maine – Billy Childs Jr. survived five caution flags and contact that impacted virtually every driver in the field to win the 40-lap Oxford Networks Late Model main event Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Childs inherited the lead when early leader Kurt Hewins, Jeff White, Zach Emerson and Ricky Rolfe all wrecked on the backstretch on lap 20. The victory was his first Late Model triumph since 2006 and sixth of his career.

Travis Adams recovered from a stop-and-go penalty that nearly cost him a lap early in the race to finish second and pad his division point lead. Matt Sanborn was an impressive third, followed by Ben Ashline and rookie Tyson Jordan. Those fourth and fifth-place finishes were career bests.
The six-feature card was delayed nearly 90 minutes by rain that wiped out most of practice and necessitated a lengthy track-drying process.
Mike Short dominated the 30-lap Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock feature for his first checkered flag of the season. Glen Henderson took a distant second, with Rick Thompson holding off point leader Skip Tripp and B.J. Chapman in a three-wide drag race to the finish line for third.
Don Mooney became the season's first repeat winner in Allen's Mini Stock, taking the lead from the suddenly ill-handling car of rookie Ken Daigle Jr. with nine laps remaining. Rookie Randy Kimball and second-year competitor Greg Watkins were second and third, respectively, a career-best for both. Bill Thibeault caught Kevin Bishop on the final lap for fifth.
In Agren Appliance Saturday Showdown action for the Acceleration Series, Ben Krauter returned to his old playground and won the 20-lap Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel feature. It was the first race of the night on the 'green' racing surface, and slipping, sliding and contact were the rule. Gregg Norton backed up his season-opening win in second, chased by Doug Degroat, Matt Dufault and Brady Romano.
Jake Burns captured his second straight Call of the Wild RV Center Sport Truck feature, overtaking Ryan Farrar with three laps remaining in the caution-free, 20-lap sprint. John Lizotte was third ahead of Tony Field and rookie Ross Spurling.
Terry Kirk posted his first OPS win since 1975 in a 10-lap exhibition for the New England Legends Cars. Bob Weymouth and Ed Getty followed.
OPS launches its mid-week racing schedule this Wednesday, June 4 with round one of the Acceleration Series at 6:30 p.m. Championship Series competition resumes with Talking Phone Book Night on Saturday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m.
