(Hermon, Me) There were 12 feature events at Speedway 95 in Hermon for the weekend of June 7th, as the track kicked off Saturday night racing with the second race in the 50-lap Dysart’s Pro-Limited series, and 6 make-up races from the washed out action from June 1st, and a bonus feature from the Maine Super Cup Racing League.
For the Pro-Limited heat races there were two cautions, the first came at lap 7, and the second at the restart of lap 7. At Lap 8, Brenton Parritt of Steuben moved to the front of the field and held the top spot until the checkered flag. Shane Clark of Winterport took second and Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs finished third. The qualifier for the 50-lap series race saw the three top spots with-in inches of each other. Rookie Rowland Robinson, Jr. of Steuben earned the inside pole and Clark, grabbed the outside pole. At the green, both Seekins and Robinson crashed hard in the entrance to turn one. On the restart, Parritt worked his way to the top spot and held it to the checkered flag. Harmon’s Scott Modery finished second, and Deane Smart of Bradley finished third.
The caution flag flew four times in the Super Street make-up race. Up to this point, Kris Watson of Hermon had a perfect season taking the win in every race, including heats, and was celebrating being named the “Mainely Motorsports Television Driver of the Month,” when a mechanical issue sidelined the driver, presumably a busted tie rod, and fell out of contention for the win, resulting in a broken streak for the points leader. Travis Beale of Winterport took advantage of this situation to post his first win of the season with Greg Pung of Franklin in second and Mike Overlock, also of Franklin earning the third place finish. Watson returned for the second feature to restart the streak with the win in both the qualifier and the feature. Doug Sinclair of Hermon finished second, and Mike Overlock crossed the finish line in third.
Despite smoke coming out of his ride, as he hit the corners, Jordan Pearson of Glenburn held it together to pick up the Strictly Street make-up race win. Ellsworth’s Brad Norris took the second spot, with Jordan’s older brother Derek Pearson in the third position at the checkered flag. Rookie Wayne Parritt, Jr. led every lap of the second Strictly Street feature, despite a challenge from the Pearson brothers. Jordan earned the second place finish and Derek join the winner’s circle in the third spot.
There were only two cautions in the Sport-Four make-up race, a refreshing change for the division that started the 2008 season with a 12-caution feature. Mike Hopkins of Hermon earned the win, with Jason Trundy from Old Town in second, and Hampden’s David Green in third. In a post race incident, Steve Moulton of Glenburn received the black flag for un-sportsman-like conduct. The second feature saw Moulton avoid confrontation and earn the win. Trundy repeated his second palace finish and defending champion Lewis Batchelder took third.
Peter Drake of Holden raced side-by-side with Jordan Pearson in the Full Sized Truck make-up race, but held the top spot at the checkers to take the win. Pearson settled for second and Ernie Wallace of Winterport finished third. Wallace improved in the second feature to grab the win, with Pearson in second, and Clifton’s Jim Carr, Jr. in third.
Gerry Phillips earned both wins in the pair of Maine Super Cup Racing League features.
