BARRE, VT – Stock car drivers at Barre’s Thunder Road will have a busy month of August ahead of them as the 2008 championship season begins to draw to a close.  With rains forcing last Thursday’s Calkins Portables/WDEV Radio program to be cut short, Thunder Road officials have added the yet-to-be-run feature events for all four racing divisions to remaining programs throughout the month of August.

The headline American-Canadian Tour Late Model division will be on the hot seat at its final weekly
championship event on Thursday, Aug. 21, Kinney Drugs Night, as the Calkins/WDEV 50-lap feature is run to begin the evening.  A full card of Kinney Drugs qualifying and feature events will then be run later in the evening to determine the 2008 “King of the Road” track champion.  Eric Williams of Hyde Park currently leads three-time champion Phil Scott of Montpelier by 29 points, 598-569.  Cris Michaud, also a three-time champion, sits third at 563.

The four-cylinder Allen Lumber Street Stock class will run its Calkins/WDEV feature this Thursday, Aug. 7 at the NAPA Auto Parts/Make-A-Wish event, followed by the regularly scheduled event later in the evening and a regular program for the Late Model, Tiger Sportsman, and Junkyard Warrior divisions.  The Power Shift Online Junkyard Warriors will run double features on Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Casella Waste Management Tiger Sportsman 100.  The NAPA Tiger Sportsman division will make up its Calkins/WDEV race at the VT ACE Hardware Dealers event on Thursday, Aug. 14.  The Sportsman, Street Stock, and Warrior championship season conclude on Sept. 27/28 with the
season-ending Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl.

The NAPA Auto Parts/Make-A-Wish event at Thunder Road, with double features for the Street Stock division, begins at 6:30pm on Thursday, August 7.  General admission is $9.50 for adults, $3 for children (6-12), and just $20 for a family of four.  Gates open at 5:00pm.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
