Ricker Goes From Back to Front

Marshall Survives Mini Stock Melee

OXFOR, Maine – Two Lap Tommy Ricker held true to his nickname, as he completed a pass on the outside of Jeff White for the lead with just two laps remaining, on his way to the win on Sunoco Race Fuels Night. Ricker charged from his starting spot in the second to last row, and worked his #6 Oxford Network Late Model up to ninth just 13 laps into the race. Jeff White took the early lead, taking off from his outside pole starting spot to take the point. Two yellow flags involving Gary Chiasson, brought the field together and negated the lead White had opened up on the rest of the field. On the lap 34 restart, Ricker drew alongside White, and beat him to the line before completing the pass a few laps later.  Jeff White finished second after leading ¾ of the race. Tim Brackett piloted his ill-handling car to a solid third place run.

Ashley Marshall survived a wild Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Mini Stock feature that saw several of the front-runners crash during multiple melees. Calvin Rose Jr. took heat #1 and got right back to business in the feature, jumping out to the early lead.  On lap 21, Steve Barker appeared to blow his engine while running third, and spun into the outside wall. The rest of the field got into the oil on the track and another half dozen cars looped it on the exit to turn 2. Jimmy Childs restarted second, and got the jump on Calvin Rose Jr. going into turn 1, but hooked Rose’s front bumper as he tried to shut the door, causing both cars to spin. Ashley Marshall inherited the lead and went on to win followed closely by Calvin Rose Jr. who made a furious charge through the field following his spin. Butch Keene came home third after spending most of the race in the back of the pack.

In the Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock feature, Kurt Hewins chased down Gene Hatch who held a commanding lead throughout the race. Hatch led from the beginning and put some distance between himself and the field while Hewins attempted to make his way through the battle for second, featuring Skipp and Kim Tripp and Larry and Zach Emerson. After making his way through, Hewins set his sights on the lead, and completed the pass with just 6 laps to go for the win. Hatch finished a close second, and Skip Tripp emerged from a cluster of cars to finish third.

In the McDonald Motor Runnin’ Rebels feature, Jason Berry prevailed over Matt Dufault and Cory Bealieu in a wild race. This race saw a yellow and red flag all on lap 1. The number 3 was unlucky for Charlie Hall who spun his #3 car into the dirt burm outside turn 3, after he got bumped out of the racing groove while running 3-wide. The red flag came out quickly, following the restart as Ryan Hewins made contact with Troy Jordan, and slid down the backstretch, crashing heavily into one of the dirt piles on the base of the light poles. Hewins, who graduated from high school this weekend, was unhurt.

In the other features, Cory Williams made a daring inside move on Jeff Schmidt with just a few laps remaining to capture the Call of the Wild Sport Trucks feature. Ryan Farrar finished third. The Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association was also in town. In the Late Model Division, Bob Oliver emerged victorious after a 10 lap, side-by-side battle with Keith Smalley. Wally Henderson rounded out the top 3.  In the Outlaw Division, Kris Watson beat Paul Pierce on the outside after another prolonged, neck and neck fight for the lead. Tim Reynolds was a close third.
