Barre, VT – Essex Junction’s “Double O” Joe Steffen won the second event on the Bond/WIX Tiger Tour at Thunder Road on Thursday, July 1. Steffen came from the sixth starting position to take the lead after a lap 43 restart. He would hold off the rest of the field through three more cautions and lead the rest of the way.
Milton’s Eric Badore and Georgia, Vermont’s Joey Roberts battled for the runner-up position during the final laps. Badore took second while Roberts settled for third. Jason Bonnett took fourth and Tony Rossi rounded out the top five. Chip Grenier, Tom Therrien, Mike Billado, Tucker Williams, and David Finck completed the top ten.
The 100 lap event took just over one hour and eighteen minutes to complete with a total of nine cautions and three lead changes among three drivers.
Northfield’s Matt White earned his third career Thunder Road Late Model win in the 50 lap feature. He took the lead from Doug Murphy on the final restart of the race and held off Rich Lowrey who had to settle for second. John Donahue earned third followed by Brooks Clark and Joey Becker rounding out the top five. Nick Sweet, Dave Pembroke, Phil Scott, Mike Bailey and Jamie Fisher completed the top ten.
Rookie driver Jayme Lee of Barre earned his first career feature win in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors Main event. Jean Leblanc took second followed by Mike MacAskill, Tim Campbell, and Dave LaFleche. Dave Whitcomb, Travis Hull, Ron Gabaree, Thomas Placey and Greg Adams completed the top ten.
Cabot’s Ken Christman took his fifth Junkyard Warrior feature win of the season. He was followed by Kevin Dodge and Brock Parrott.
Thunder Road will be back in action this Sunday, July 4 with a full card of racing followed by fireworks presented by Pepsi. Post time is at 6:30pm and all divisions will compete.
