Devil’s Bowl Speedway Race Report

ACT Racing

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., overcame two flat tires to finish 11th in the ACT Late Model Tour Spring Green 111 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday afternoon, May 22. Dragon started fifth in the 32-car field and was beginning to challenge for the lead when he cut the first of two right rear tires after only a handful of laps. After charging from the back of the back to the Top-10, he was hit with the same misfortune a second time – ultimately settling for 11th, but leaping two spots to fifth in the ACT standings after three events.

BRENT, YOU HAD SOME BAD LUCK WITH THE TIRES.

Yeah, definitely. Even after the first one (went down), we worked our way little by little up through. If the track had stayed where it was earlier in the race, we might have gotten all the way back, too – but with us racing on the track with all the cars, we started drawing water up on the track through it. When you’d hit that water, the car would take right off on you.

I felt like as soon as I could get by a car, you’d come across some water on the track and have to hold up a little bit – so it was hard to get separated from the guys around you. Then when we cut the second (tire) down, I was like, ‘Oh, no. You’ve got to be kidding me.’

WERE YOU ENCOURAGED BY HOW WELL YOUR OWN CAR RAN FOR ITS FIRST TIME OUT THIS SEASON?

It went really well, so that really was a plus from the weekend.

We had a really good car. By far, I was pretty sure it was going to be between us and (eventual winner Brian Hoar) in this race. We just had some bad luck. What can you do? It was nice to have the car go out and run so well.
