Thunder Road

Barre, VT – Thunder Road has announced the first annual Thunder Road Home Run Derby scheduled as part of “Kid’s Day” during the Harvest Equipment program on Sunday, June 19.

Kids ages 12 and under who wear a baseball hat or shirt to Thunder Road this Sunday, May 29 and on Sunday, June 12 will be able to sign up for the Home Run Derby drawing at the announcer’s tower. During intermission of the Sunday, June 12 event six (6) names will be drawn randomly.

These six kids will go down to the start/finish line (kids must be present to be chosen) where they will each draw a chip. The chip they pick will have a Thunder Road division on it. The kids will then choose their favorite driver from the division on their chip to be on their team.

There will be three teams. Each will consist of two kids and two drivers. The Late Model drivers and the kids that chose them will be on one team, the Tiger drivers and the kids that chose them will be on another team and the Street Stock/Warrior drivers and the kids that chose them will be on a third team.

During intermission on Sunday, June 19, the six kids and the six drivers will each get three swings on the front stretch. If the drivers hit the ball over the fence their team gets one point, while if the kids hit the ball to the wall their team gets one point. There will be two rounds. The team with the lowest score will be eliminated at the end of each round, leaving the champions at the end of the second round.

The Sunday, June 19, Harvest Equipment event will also have Kid Rides beginning at 2:00pm. Post time will be at 5:00pm.

Sign ups for the Home Run Derby begin this Sunday, May 29 during the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. The event will feature a doubleheader with the Thunder Road Late Models and the ACT Bond/WIX Tiger Tour both running 100 lappers. General admission is just $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $30 for a family of four (2 kids and 2 adults). Post time is 1:30pm.
