Barre, VT – East Montpelier’s Cris Michaud rebounded from a rough start to the 2011 season with his 17th career Late Model feature win at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Thursday, June 30. The three-time “King of the Road” started on the pole and held off sophomore driver Cody Blake and veterans Jamie Aube and Jamie Fisher on several restarts to earn the win. Fisher would settle for second and Blake completed the podium. Matt White and Aube rounded out the top five.
2010 “King of the Road” Nick Sweet came from the 14th starting position to take 6th after working his way through heavy traffic. Current point leader John Donahue followed him most of the way from his 17th starting position to take seventh. Mike Bailey, Eric Chase and current Rookie of the Year leader Jimmy Hebert all took top tens.
The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen kicked off the night with their 35 lap make-up feature from last Sunday’s Carquest event. Second generation driver Tucker Williams of Hyde Park took his second feature win of the season. He outran veteran Joe Steffen and Bobby Therrien. Pete Ainsworth and Jason Allen took top fives. Jason Corliss, Mike Billado, Eric Badore, Christopher Pelkey and Mike Ziter were the top ten.
2010 Rookie of the Year Jason Corliss of Danville picked up his first Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen win of the season in the Fairpoint Communications feature. He battled hard to get by former Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion Mike MacAskill and Shannon Tomasovich. Matt Potter and Pete Ainsworth finished in the top three. Current point leader Derrick O’Donnell of Bradford took fourth with Brendan Moodie in fifth. Eric Badore, Bobby Therrien, Tony Rossi, Shawn Fleury and MacAskill completed the top ten.
The Allen Lumber Street Stocks saw a fierce battle between Hyde Park’s Daniel Lathrop and Montpelier’s Alex Whitcomb for the majority of the event. Lathrop would eventually take the win as Whitcomb faded late in the event. Ken Christman, Greg Adams, Ron Gabaree and Nick Pilotte all finished under a blanket in the top five. Jamie Davis, Sid Sweet, Whitcomb, Troy Kingsbury and David Whitcomb rounded out the top ten.
The Junkyard Warriors saw Jason Woodard of Waterbury take his second straight win, while current point leader Kevin Wheatley and Brock Parrott completed the podium.
Thunder Road International Speedbowl will be back with an action packed night of race this Monday, July 4 for the Pepsi Holiday event. The night will feature all four divisions plus Pepsi Holiday Fireworks. Post time is 6:00pm.
