Barre, VT – Barre native Mike Bailey earned his third career Late Model feature win at Thunder Road International Speedbowl as he led all 50 laps on the first Thursday night show of the year June 16. Bailey held off Waterbury’s Brett Wheeler and Washington’s Ricky Roberts who completed the top three.
Joey Becker and Brooks Clark rounded out the top five, while Mike Bruno and Chip Grenier took sixth and seventh respectively. Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott worked his way from 16th to claim eighth. He was followed by Memorial Day Classic winner John Donahue in ninth and former King of the Road Dave Pembroke in tenth.
Sophomore Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen driver Tucker Williams from Hyde Park earned his first career feature win. The second generation driver held off George May, Brendan Moodie, Eric Badore, and Mike Ziter in the top five. Jason Allen, Joe Steffen, Josh Demers, Bobby Therrien and current point leader Derrick O’Donnell completed the top ten.
The Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors saw a wild finish to their main event. Ron Gabaree of Barre just edged out Jamie Davis of Wolcott for his third career feature win. Tim Campbell, point leader Nick Pilotte and Joe Blais rounded out the top five as the remainder of the field tried to avoid a last lap melee. Troy Kingsbury, Bunker Hodgdon, Martin Ingram, Greg Adams and Paul Giacherio avoided the carnage to earn top tens.
The Junkyard Warriors saw Williamstown’s Kevin Wheatley pick up his second feature win of the season. Fred Schroeder and Jason Woodard completed the podium.
Thunder Road will be back in action this Sunday, June 19 for a special Sunday twilight event presented by Harvest Equipment. As part of Kid’s Day, the heroes of Thunder Road will be holding Kid’s Rides starting at 2 pm. Also six lucky kids were selected from a drawing to compete in the first annual Home Run Derby with their favorite drivers during intermission. All four divisions will be back this Sunday with a post time of 5:00pm.
