Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue rebounded from an eventful Mid-Season Championship just a week ago with a win on Casella night Thursday, July 21 at Thunder Road. Donahue came from the 13th starting position and worked his way through heavy traffic to earn his third win of the season.
Joey Becker led early from the outside pole after a caution on the original green. He would hold a comfortable lead for the first 30 laps before it appeared his car started going away. Dave Whitcomb made a power move on the outside on lap 30 to take the lead. He would hold the lead for less than a lap as Donahue moved from the outside of Becker to under Whitcomb in the blink of an eye.
Donahue would survive a restart with five laps to go after Eric Chase and Brett Wheeler had a hard wreck into the widow maker. Whitcomb would take second, while Brooks Clark picked up third. Scott Payea and Jamie Aube rounded out the top five. Trampas Demers, Chip Grenier, Ricky Roberts, Dennis Demers and Phil Scott completed the top ten.
Tucker Williams of Hyde Park earned his third feature win of the 2011 season. He held off former Street Stock Champion Jason Corliss who settled for second followed by Matt Potter. Shawn Fleury and Josh Demers rounded out the top five. Point leader Derrick O’Donnell came from the 19th starting position to take sixth followed by rookie Dylan Payea, Brendan Moodie, Jason Allen and Eric Badore in the top ten.
Martin Ingram of Essex Junction returned to victory lane for his second career Allen Lumber Street Stock win. Ingram returned to the Street Stock ranks after taking 2010 off as he was deployed overseas. Ingram picked up his first win of the season, holding off Nick Pilotte and Kyle Streeter. Current point leader Greg Adams and Ken Christman completed the top five.
Jason Woodard of Waterbury took his second straight Junkyard Warrior win of the season. The current point leader outran Brock Parrott and Danny Brassard.
Many of the stars of the Thunder Road Late Models will take their shot at the $25,000 to win Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway this Sunday, July 24.
All four divisions will continue their 2011 seasons next Thursday, July 28 with WDEV/Calking night. The event will feature all four divisions plus the annual Porta-Pottie Gran Prix during intermission. All the action starts at 6:30pm.
