Thunder Road

Barre, VT – Veteran Matt White of Northfield earned his fourth career Thunder Road Late Model win on WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets Night on Thursday, July 28. White came from the third starting position and survived a fourth caution 50 lap event to pick up his first win of the season. He held off Mike Bailey, who came home second.

Lt. Governor Phil Scott worked his way from the 14th starting spot and got around Cris Michaud late to take third. Michaud and second place point man Dave Pembroke completed the top five. Reno Gervais, Trampas Demers, Joey Becker, rookie Jimmy Hebert, and Cody Blake rounded out the top five.

It was a rough night for the high point guys as point leader John Donahue had to settle for 12th and third place point man Nick Sweet came home 24th after being involved in an early wreck.

Two-time Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Champion Shawn Fleury of Middlesex took his 12th career feature win and secures second on the Tigers all-time wins list. He worked his way through the field from 16th to take the checkers after holding off rookie Dylan Payea on a restart with just five laps remaining. Eric Badore and Bobby Therrien got by Payea over the final laps to take second and third respectively.

Payea held on for his highest career finish with a fourth followed by fellow rookie Kyle Pembroke. Matt Potter took sixth, while point leader Derrick O’Donnell rebounded from being involved in an early caution to take seventh, followed by Mike Martin, Josh Demers and Jason Corliss completing the top ten.

Waitsfield’s Kyle Streeter earned his first career Allen Lumber Street Stock win. He beat veterans Tim Campbell and Bunker Hodgdon who came home second and third respectively. Alan Maynard and Garry Bashaw completed the top five. Gary Mullen, Jeffrey Martin, current point leader Nick Pilotte, Kyle Hess and Jayme Lee rounded out the top ten.

Kevin Wheatley of Williamstown earned his fifth Junkyard Warrior win of the season. He held off Brock Parrott and George Sanders.

Junkyard Warrior Jason Woodard swept the annual Porta-Pottie Gran Prix, claiming both the best in show and beating the Late Models, Tigers and Street Stock entries in the drag race.

Thunder Road International Speedbowl will be back in action next Thursday, August 4 with Safelite Auto Glass Night. The event will feature all four Thunder Road divisions plus the New England Antique Racers and the annual Run What You Brung. It is one of just four Thursday night events remaining on the 2011 schedule.
