Barre, VT – Island Pond’s Reno Gervais earned his second career win in a last lap thriller at Thunder Road during the Pepsi Holiday Fireworks event on Monday, July 4. Gervais was out about a half a straight away lead with just eight laps remaining when hard charging Lt. Governor Phil Scott of Berlin and Cris Michaud of East Montpelier cleared traffic in the second and third positions respectively.

The two chased down Gervais and Scott reached his rear bumper with just two laps to go. Scott looked to the outside but Gervais moved to the outside lane as well in anticipation of a lap car just ahead. Michaud moved under Scott and the three of them came out of turn four coming to the checkers as they reached the lap car. Gervais had the room on the outside and took the win while Michaud just edged out Scott for second. Joey Becker and Jamie Aube rounded out the top five. Brooks Clark, Scott Payea, Marcel Gravel, Matt White and point leader John Donahue completed the top ten.

Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg picked up his first Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature win of the season. He outran Shawn Fleury, Mike Martin, Josh Demers and Eric Badore in the top five. Point leader Derrick O’Donnell took sixth followed by Matt Potter, Mike Ziter, Kyle Pembroke and Brendan Moodie.

Jeff Martin, Jr. of Northfield earned his first career Allen Lumber Street Stock victory. He held off last week’s feature winner Daniel Lathrop, Bunker Hodgdon, Martin Ingram and Sid Sweet. Garry Bashaw, Keith Fortier, Greg Adams, Jayme Lee and Troy Kingsbury all earned top tens.

Kevin Wheatley of Williamstown took his fourth win of the season in the Junkyard Warriors. Jason Woodard took second while Brock Parrott finished third after apparent third place finisher Danny Brassard was disqualified in post race tech.

The Pepsi Holiday event was capped off with a brilliant display of fireworks.

Thunder Road will be back in action in this Thursday, July 7 with the Charter Communications event. All four divisions are on the racing card. Post time is set for 6:30pm.
