LOUDON, N.H. (May 14, 2012) – With a background that includes seven years of sports writing experience, Gavin Faretra has been hired as communications manager at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, effective immediately.

Faretra will be responsible for a variety of duties within the communications department with a focus on written communications and advanced media for the speedway, including developing and editing press releases, website copy, newsletter content, souvenir program stories, fan guides and brochures. He will also be responsible for pitching, planning and executing all publicity events, as well as assist the communications department in day?to?day activities, promotions and other projects.

“Gavin brings an impressive resume as a well-respected journalist to our team here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “His knowledge of all sports throughout New England, including his coverage of NASCAR racing, will serve him well in his new duties here.”

Faretra comes to the speedway after spending seven years as a sports writer for the Concord Monitor. “It is a privilege to join the team here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway,” said Faretra. “Having dealt with the speedway on a regular basis over the years, I’ve always had the utmost respect for Jerry and the staff he has assembled here. To now be a part of it, I can honestly say I am thrilled to take on this new and exciting position as communications manager.”

A Bow, N.H. native, Faretra and is an alum of Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), where he majored in journalism and mass communications. He began work in the sports department at the Monitor in 2005, where he served as a writer and editor. Faretra wrote about sports at all levels, including New Hampshire high school athletics, University of New Hampshire hockey, the Boston Bruins and NASCAR. He was nominated three times, nationally, for Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) awards in breaking news, column writing and game story writing.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway hosts a variety of motorsports events, including two major NASCAR weekends – the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 and the SYLVANIA 300. Other events include FANtasy Drive Open House, Vintage Racing Celebration; the oldest motorcycle event in the country, the Loudon Classic; and a variety of sports car, club racing and numerous driving/rider schools.
