Vintage Racing Returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway May 10-13

LOUDON, N.H. (May 7, 2012) – Vintage represents the high quality of a past time, is old-fashioned and means being the best of its kind. All is true as New Hampshire Motor Speedway steps back in time when history comes alive for the 22nd Annual Vintage Racing Celebration May 10-13.

Race fans of all ages can enjoy four days of memorable racing with machines that are rare, special and something worth taking the time to stop and appreciate.

The technology may be more basic but the thrill of seeing and hearing these two and four-wheeled vehicles turn fast laps is essential.

The Vintage Racing Celebration is unique and memorable for the access to drivers and their machines. Fans are encouraged to visit the pits, peek under the hood of a race car, and mingle with the racers.

“The variety is awe-inspiring,” exclaimed Jerry Gappens, New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager. “Fans will see open cockpit, open-wheeled race cars that first blazed around racetracks all over the world. They can imagine what it’s really like to be the ‘monkey’ in a sidecar, some who spends most of the race hovering barely an inch above the pavement, roaring toward a checkered flag. There is something from every corner of the racing world.”

On Thursday and Friday, vintage midgets, sprint cars, champ cars, roadsters and NASCAR stock cars will be in action on “The Magic Mile” 1.058-mile oval. This event offers an unprecedented side-by-side view of a wide variety of vehicles.

The speedway crews then work their “Magic” and transform from oval to road course, and the racing truly changes direction. On Saturday and Sunday, vintage road racers from around the world will battle on New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s challenging 1.6-mile road course. This event gives classic car enthusiasts the opportunity to watch as drivers race vintage sports cars, formula cars and motorcycles around the tricky 12-turn course. This configuration tests nerves and abilities, providing an awesome spectacle for anyone who’s ever revved an engine and wondered about the thrill of racing.

Fans are encouraged to get up close to view the rich history of auto racing. Get answers to questions on restoration projects and learn new tips for turning dream vehicle into a high-octane reality.

Adult tickets for the entire 4-day event are $25 or $10 for daily admission. Children’s tickets for those aged 12 to 16 are $5 per day and those 11 years old and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on each day of the event.
