One Point Separates Leaders in All Divisions

Barre, VT – Thunder Road’s point leaders have never had it easy, but 2012 may bring more sleepless nights than ever for the three divisions’ top talent. As it sits, the largest gap between first and second in season standings across all divisions at Thunder Road is a stunning one point, leaving point leaders nerve-wracked as the season continues this Sunday (June 17) at twilight.

Barre sensation Nick Sweet holds the one point advantage over Lt. Governor Phil Scott on the wings of a remarkable drive from 19th to 4th this past Sunday in the Late Model division. With two drivers tied for third, and two more tied for fifth, Sweet cannot find much comfort atop the standings.

Hinesburg’s Bobby Therrien leads the way in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen over a two-way tie for second place. Jason Allen and Eric Badore both sit just one point back from the top spot, but in a division where the entire top ten is just 12 points out of the lead, no one is safe. Therrien will continue his charge for his first Tiger Championship this Sunday with a target on his back.

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks saw Garry Bashaw take over the point lead, leaving 2011 Championship runner-up Nick Pilotte a single point shy of the spot that so narrowly avoided him last season. Bashaw has more than just Pilotte to worry about, as all-time win list leader Tommy Smith and Dan Lathrop sit just 3 and 7 points back respectively.

The grinding championship battles continue this coming Sunday, June 17 at Thunder Road for Harvest Equipment night. Kids Rides in the racecars will start at 1:30pm; post time is 4:00pm. The show will also include the annual Trike Races for ages 3/4 and 5/6. Adult tickets are $10, family passes are $20, children 6-12 are $3, and Scouts and Little Leaguers in uniform and all Race to Read participants with the green bracelets will get in for free.
