Barre, VT – Barre’s own Jay Laquerre took the outside lane to victory in the headline Late Model division on Sunday evening (June 10) on Sherwin-Williams night at Thunder Road. Laquerre’s victory was his first since 2001 when he scored his two career victories at the Barre high banks. Jamie “The Hurricane” Fisher made Laquerre work for the win on a late race charge, but settled for second. Cody Blake, former Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet, and multi-time champion Phil Scott rounded out the top five.

Laquerre took the lead and ran away in the first half of the race after a lap three caution for debris before Fisher caught him using the outside lane in lapped traffic over the final 47 green flag laps. Fisher mounted multiple attacks, cruising to Laquerre’s bumper and pulling down on the inside, only to find himself back in second. Laquerre is thankful Fisher had the same handling condition as they battled for the lead.

“We were great around the outside here today, but very loose around the inside, so I knew when Fisher came I had to stay high. Luckily Jamie was too.” said Laquerre. “It’s so great to pick up a win here. Great for the team, great for me, it’s been awhile.”

Middlesex, VT’s Josh Demers cruised to his second career victory in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman after a long duel with Hyde Park’s Tucker Williams. The duel ended when Williams spun into the infield with ten laps to go, leaving Demers to cruise for the victory. Demers is rejuvenated after his big feature win.

“I have to thank my crew for getting the car together after the fire we had here last week. Just feels great to pick up a win after the way things went last time out,” said Demers.

The Allen Lumber Street Stock division saw Waitsfield, VT’s Troy Kingsbury take down his second career feature victory, fighting off a hard charging Cameron Ouellette of Barre and Cabot’s Ken Christman. Kingsbury was also chosen as the Race to Read driver of the week, and marked down the second victory in a row for Race to Read drivers in its inaugural season.

The stars of Thunder Road will be back in action next Sunday, June 17 for the last twilight event before regular Thursday night action sponsored by Harvest Equipment. Kids who participate in the Race to Read program, or come in wearing their little league or scout uniforms will get in for free. Kids will also get a taste of the high banks with Kid Rides in the racecars started at 1:30pm as well as Kid’s Trike races later in the program for kids ages 3 to 6 years old. Post time is 4:00pm.
