Waterbury, VT – The stars of the American Canadian Tour will kick off the second half of their season this Saturday night, (July 28), at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME for the ACT 150. Dover NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr., leads Hudson, NH native Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Williston, VT’s Brian Hoar at the midway point as the title hunt remains far from settled.
Polewarczyk comes into the event as one of the hottest racers in the region after dominating the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway last Sunday (July 22). He already found victory lane at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway when he claimed the win in this event two years ago, and will look to add to his increasing momentum.
“Obviously winning the 250 was huge, but we are really looking forward to the second half of the year on the Tour,” said Polewarczyk. “Historically, we’ve been at our best in this part of the season, and now we’re finally in a good position to strike. This is a huge opportunity for us,” he finished.
Polewarczyk will have to topple ACT point leader Helliwell, who has yet to finish out of the top two in ACT events except for a mechanical failure at Oxford Plains Speedway in May. Helliwell finished second last year at Beech Ridge in his only ACT start there.
Helliwell welcomes the challenge. “I’m really excited to go back there,” said Helliwell. “We have a great program for that track, it will be like déjà vu from the Oxford 250 with all the same people racing for the win. We’re looking forward to it.”
Third-place point driver and eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar claimed victory at the Scarborough, ME 1/3 mile track in 2009, and fourth-place point man Austin Theriault finished second to Polewarczyk in 2010. Both are within striking distance of the point lead held by Helliwell.
