Thunder Road Point Leaders Survive Double Points Night

Barre, VT – Championship battles are turning the corner at Barre’s Thunder Road as point battles tighten heading into the second half of the season. Point leaders Nick Sweet, Jason Allen, and Nick Pilotte survived a double points battle last Thursday, but title hunts remain unsettled.

Late Model point leader Nick Sweet has taken no prisoners in 2012, jumping out to a 78-point lead on the wings of four feature victories. Defending Champion Dave Pembroke, looking for his third Thunder Road track title, rides second and leads the effort to break Sweet’s stranglehold. Trampas Demers has risen to third, multi-time Champion Phil Scott rides fourth, and young Cody Blake sits in fifth.

Barre’s own Jason Allen has protected a slim point lead heading into the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Heritage 100 lap special this coming Thursday (July 26). Allen sits only six points ahead of double points victor, and two-time Tiger Champion, Shawn Fleury. Josh Demers rides third just one point back from Fleury, with Mike Martin lurking in fourth. Brendan Moodie, Jr., and Eric Badore are deadlocked for fifth place, just 16 points out of the lead. With the top five within easy striking distance, the 100-lap special becomes even more critical heading into the second half of the summer.

Jefferson, NH’s Nick Pilotte continues his attempt to avenge a runner up finish in the 2011 championship race, clinging to a 5-point lead over Rookie Dean Switser, Jr., in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks. The pair has been in a class of their own, leaving sophomore standout Cameron Ouellette 50 points back in third. Garry Bashaw and “Wild” Will Hennequin round out the top five.

The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen will look to settle their bets this Thursday, July 26 in the Heritage 100 Lap Special on We Dig Barre night at Thunder Road. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for children 6-12, family passes are $20, and kids under 6 get in free.
