Sanair Turns to Night Racing for First Time Ever

Waterbury, VT – For the first time since July of 2006, American Canadian Tour officials have announced a return to the historic Sanair Super Speedway in St-Pie, QC on Saturday, August 11. To add to the event, the 7/8 mile triangular oval will present the race under the lights for the first time in history.

The return to Sanair Super Speedway is a special one for ACT President Tom Curley. “I remember when we opened the new ‘Super Speedway’ at Sanair in 1983, nearly 30 years ago,” said Curley. “It was a thrill for the NASCAR North teams back then, and now with the ACT teams having had a few years experience at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, this should be quite a show,” he finished.

Sanair Super Speedway is well known around the Northeast for it’s unique design and high speeds, but going under the lights for the first time will add another element to the excitement. “Jean Bergeron, the promoter at Riverside, is a good friend of ACT racing and making a deal to have a night race at Sanair is certainly bold and should be fun for both fans and teams,” said Curley.

A five-hour test session last Wednesday, July 25 prepared teams for the 100-lap feature event on August 11 for both ACT and Serie ACT Castrol teams. Former ACT and Serie Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle lead the session, with seven-time ACT Champion Jean Paul Cyr right behind him. ACT Rookie of the Year competitor Jimmy Hebert, ACT point leader Wayne Helliwell Jr., and veteran Randy Potter rounded out the top five fastest cars of the session.

Laperle is excited for the return to Sanair. “Sanair is a very fun track to drive, so we are excited to go back there,” he said. “We were very fast in practice, so we are coming to win.”

ACT veteran Randy Potter is also thrilled with the chance at history. “I’ve never had the opportunity to race here, but we’ve been working towards this for a long time,” said Potter. “We felt good about our practice, the track is bad fast. The tri-oval is pretty tricky too,” he finished.

Serie ACT Castrol will return to action this Friday night, August 3 for the ACT 150 at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, QC. US teams will prepare for the first combo series race of 2012 at Sanair on Saturday, August 11 under the lights.
