Andy Saunders of Ellsworth put an exclamation point on his 2012 championship in the Dysart’s Late Models Saturday night at Speedway 95 when he won the 35 lap feature after taking the lead from early leader Deane Smart of Milford on a lap 9 restart. Saunders led the rest of the way to the checkers with Smart holding on to the second spot at the finish. John Kalel II of Orrington finished third after a race long battle with Ryan Deane of Winterport and Joey Doyon of Winterport who finished fourth and fifth. Phil Richardson of Hermon, Ryan Modery of Hermon, Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs, Patrick Thibodeau of Winterport and last week’s winner, Donny Blanchard of Bangor, rounded out the top ten.
Steve Moulton of Holden won the 25 lap Maine State Lottery Sportsman feature along with the season’s points title in that division. Only one yellow flag slowed the action in that race when Brad Norris of Ellsworth and Joe Legere of Milford spun into the infield on lap 11 after contact between the two. Both drivers recovered to finish the race.Kris Watson of Hermon finished second. Ralph Melanson of Charleston finished third with Legere coming home fourth. Pole sitter Kris Matchett of Skowhegan finished fifth.
In the Strictly Streets, Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington inherited the lead of the 25 lap feature on a lap 22 restart when the three leaders ahead of him collided on the start and ended up in the infield. Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton and Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort were eliminated in the crash, but David Gray of Dixmont was able to rejoin the field. Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort finished the race in second, followed by Gray in third. Matt Kimball of Cornville finished fourth with his sister, Shelby Kimball of Cornville, recovering from a lap 2 spin to finish fifth.
Zach Audet of Skowhegan led from the pole to the checkers in the caution free Sport-Four feature with Hudson’s Donny Silva finishing in second. Ted Ryder of Carmel finished third and won the division championship in the process. Fourth went to Darren Durrell of Newburgh with Steve Heath of Milo finishing in fifth.
Joey Doyon of Winterport won the Bomber division feature after a race long battle with Andrew Crosby of Hermon, who won the division points title for the season. Dennis Burns of Carmel finished third with Carmel’s Jeremy Scott finishing fourth. Dylan Dodge-Hafford recovered from a mid-race altercation with an overlapped car driver to finish fifth.
Alex Runci of Belfast took the win in the Stars of Tomorrow despite a last lap incident caused when three cars came together on the front stretch just after taking the white flag. No caution came out until the checkered flag was in the air, warning the competitors of danger past the finish line. Dylan Street of Old Town finished second, followed by Dustin Durrell of Newburgh in third, Brayden Perkins of Frankfort in fourth and Alexis Roach of Brewer finishing fifth.
Racing continues at Speedway 95 on Saturday, September 29 with a 3:00 p.m. start time. The Dysart’s Late Models and the Maine State Lottery Sportsman with each go 50 laps that afternoon, with the Strictly Streets, Sport-Fours, Bombers and Stars of Tomorrow all running regular length features. The season’s final event will be on Saturday October 6, at 3:00 p.m. featuring the Fred Ashmnore JR. and Mike Harnish Jr. “Quit Your Complaining” 50 lapper for the Sport-Four division. All other divisions will run their normal feature events.
