WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

EMILY PACKARD, Driver of the No. 9x Northstar Fireworks/Berlin Optical Expressions Chevrolet, On her mindset heading into Devil’s Bowl Speedway this weekend: “I’m super-excited. Last weekend, we definitely gained a lot of confidence. Going to Devil’s Bowl, given how we’ve been able to be strong there to start some races last year, I really feel like we have a chance to be good at the finish of one of these races soon.”

On why she likes Devil’s Bowl Speedway so much: “The corners are so tight there, that it really is a driver’s track. Some of it is the car, obviously, but some what makes you good there you have to work on yourself as a driver. It’s a fast track, and I really, really like the fast tracks.

“I think the difference in traffic is a big thing at these faster tracks – you have a lot more time to complete a pass. At a track like Thunder Road, you almost need two laps to complete a pass just because of the way the place races. At a place like Devil’s Bowl, with more speed and and more room, you can complete the same pass in half a lap. Definitely my driving style works really well with the track.”

On whether her run at Thunder Road changed her outlook for this weekend at all: “We all know that I like to set some pretty lofty goals for myself – my first year in a Late Model wanting to go to Loudon (for the ACT Invitational) was a huge, huge, huge goal for us. But no goal is ever too big.

“My goal this weekend – I really, really would like to have a solid finish. We’re always really good there, and I’d like a chance to redeem myself from the way it finished last time. I would love to have a Top-10 out of there.”
