Scarborough, ME – For the second time in as many races, Joey Doiron and the #73 Wild Willy’s Burgers race team dominated the Pro All Stars Series North “Southern Maine Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge 150” event at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and finished in the runner up position. This time however, it was behind his Dale Shaw Racecars teammate and good friend, DJ Shaw.
Starting from the second spot in the first heat race, Doiron cruised to the heat win, putting him on the pole position for the 150 lap feature. From the start, Doiron never fell further than the second position, and lead most of the event. During the races final stages, a series of cautions slowed the field down to set up a dash for the finish, with Doiron and Shaw on the front row for the race’s final two restarts. The two friends drove each other hard, swapping paint a few times and putting on another great race for the fans. When the dust settled, Doiron went home with the second place trophy.
“We had a great car again today and came up just a little bit short, again,” Doiron explained of the race, “it got a little bit aggressive there at the finish but it is what it is and we are happy to have another strong run.”
Just as he did last year when the teams rolled out of Beech Ridge, Doiron now holds the PASS North points lead ahead of Oxford winner Cassius Clark. With a pair of second place finishes, Doiron is happy with his teams start coming off his strongest start to a season.
“It’s definitely a great way to start our season with a pair of second place finishes up here and the win at Auburndale,” Doiron said of the season so far, “this team has just kept getting better each week and we are finally having some things go our way, there’s no reason we can’t contend for the championship throughout the rest of the season.”
The team will make the trip north of the border in two weeks on Saturday, May 18th for the first of three races at the Autodrome Chaudiere, in Vallee-Jonction, Quebec, Canada, this season. In his last trip to the track, Doiron finished in third and considers it one of his favorite places to race.
