Speedway 95For the second time in the month of May, poor weather conditions have caused racing at the 1/3 mile Hermon oval to be cancelled. With the forecast showing no promise, track officials called the program early in the day to give drivers and fans as much notice as possible that the racing program would not be held.

Saturday, June 1 is the next scheduled race date, with the Dysart’s Late Models 50 lap Maine State Lottery series race #2 headlining the program. The Bomber division will have their first extended length feature of the season with their 30 lap series event. Also racing will be the Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Keystone Automotive Street Stocks and the Sport-Fours.

With his win in the Dysart’s Late Models last week, Ryan Deane of Winterport has closed to within 3 points of leader Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, while rookie Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington sits only 7 points behind Deane. Saunders also leads the Maine State Lottery Series points, with Deane only 2 points behind and Wayne Parritt of Steuben only 2 points behind him.

In the Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Kris Matchett of Skowhegan leads the points by 4 markers over Hermon’s Kris Watson, while Milford’s Joe Leger sits only 6 points out of the lead.

The Keystone Automotive Strictly street points lead is currently held by Shelby Kimball of Cornville with a 4 point lead over Alex Berry of Harrington. Shelby’s brother Matt Kimball of Cornville sits in third, 25 points behind his sister.

Kevin Hartley of Hermon leads in the Sport-Fours by 22 points over 2012 champion Ted Ryder of Carmel with Hermon’s Andrew Crosby 33 points behind the leader.

Going into the first Bomber series race of the season, Greenbush driver Chris Carroll has a 1 point lead over Carmel’s Denis Burns, with Bangor’s Scott Bonney 25 points behind in third.

Action begins at 5:00 on Saturday, June 1. On Wednesday, June 5, the Varney Buick-GMC-Mazda Wacky Wednesday season begins at 7:00 with racing in the Big Enduro, Little Enduro, Sinclair Towing Service Pick-up trucks and the ever popular Ladies Divisions. A pretty vehicle contest will precede the racing action at 6:30 on the front stretch.
