Fahey’s Big Day!
Greg Fahey had a great start to his season in the Martins Home Heating Sportsman Division to kick off the 20th anniversary season at Speedway 660. Fahey made three trips to the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane to win the first Jensen Financial triple crown award of the racing season.
Fahey picked up the checkered flag in his heat, dash and feature in his first run in a Sportsman car in several years. The former Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock champion has decided to race Sportsman in 2013, after being a force in pro stock for many years.
“I’m pretty excited about my first ever Martins Home Heating feature victory at Speedway 660 and want to thank my family and friends for making it possible for me to be here today” Fahey said from victory lane. “Sponsorship is an issue for us and if we can find a few new sponsors we would like to race for the Martins Home Heating Sportsman championship this season.”
Matt Rodgers also had a pretty good day at the Riverview Ford Season Opener. Matt won his heat race before finishing 2nd, behind Fahey in both the Dash and Feature. Brent Roy also had a good run in the season opener finishing 3rd in the feature.
Dave O’Blenis showed Speedway 660 fans that he’ll be a top contender in the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division. O’Blenis, the 2012 Pro Stock champion, won the feature and dash. Chris Duncan, the 1994 and 2010 Pro Stock champion, finished second in the feature ahead of Ken MacKenzie. Jordan Gahan and Derek Christie were winners in the Pro Stock heat races.
Roger Slocum took the checkered flag in the DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stock feature. Heidi Cooper ran a strong second and Benjie Ruff finished in third position. Slocum also won one of the heat races, while Matthew Banks took the other heat and the dash.
Nackawic’s Tyler Seveck celebrated a Fredericton Jeweller’s Four Cylinder Division win. Seveck made an amazing last lap pass on Ira Farnell to take the checkered flag. Farnell settled for second, while Neil Miousse came home third. Farnell and Jeremy Doran won the four cylinder heat races.
It was a great day for Drew Greenlaw in the Westwood Estates Apartments Bandolero Division. The Eastport, Maine youngster won his heat race and the feature. Alicia Mowat finished second in the feature and won the other eat race, while Cole Boudreau finished third in the feature.
Next Saturday night at 7PM Speedway 660 hosts the Pro All Star Series. The PASS 150 is one of Atlantic Canada’s biggest races of the year and attracts the top Late Model and Pro Stock Drivers from the eastern seaboard of North America.
