LOUDON, N.H. (June 16, 2013) – With more than 1,000 riders descending on New Hampshire Motor Speedway over the last three days, the 90th annual Loudon Classic motorcycle weekend wrapped up on Sunday with the highest number of entries in over six years.
More than 60 races were run over the three days at the Magic Mile, including the running of the 90th annual Loudon Classic Middleweight Grand Prix feature event on Saturday, won by Shane Narbonne.
Another 26 races were run on Sunday, highlighted by the Side Car Modern event. Chris Wells and Jeff Gillard picked up the win. The two made a pass on the penultimate lap and never looked back during a race that was littered with passes and bumps.
“That was a lot of fun,” said Wells. “It was wheel-to-wheel from start to finish and we really didn’t feel comfortable until we came out of that last corner.”
Steve Fletcher and Fabio Peturcelli finished just 1.128 second behind the winners, while Peter Essaff and Lindsey Greenlaw took the third spot on the podium.
Showers began to fall before the race even dropped the green flag, forcing officials to cut the eight-lap feature into a six-lap sprint. That was the difference, according to Essaff.
“We needed those last two laps,” he said. “But, hey, it was great to be here. We always love coming to New Hampshire Motor Speedway and it was a great race. You can’t ask for much more than that.”
