Scarborough, ME – Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Sport Series 35-lap feature event was won by recent high-school graduate Garrett Hall, of Scarborough.
Doug Wolfe, of Gorham, paced the 17-car field to the green flag, however gave up the lead to Westbrook’s Dave Charest on the first lap. Charest led the field until lap seven of the event, when Hall was able to gain an advantage coming out of the corner to capture the lead from him on lap eight. Hall didn’t look back in the caution free event and led until the checkered flag.
By the halfway mark, Gorham’s Sally Gheradi had safely maneuvered her way through the field and into the runner-up position after starting 7th in the event. Gheradi tried to run-down Hall, however he maintained his lead on her and the rest of the field.
With five laps remaining, current points leader Frank Wear, of Buxton, battled side-by-side with New Gloucester’s Ben Tinker for the third spot. Tinker, who looked like the apparent third place car, lost the position to Wear with two laps remaining and finished 4th in the event.
With the win, Hall joins Ben Tinker, of New Gloucester, to be the only repeat winners in the Sport Series division.
Cassius Clark, of Farmington, edged Turner’s Mike Rowe to win the Pro All-Star Series 150-lap feature event. Clark maintained the lead on the final restart over the veteran Rowe to lead the remaining 42 laps on his way to the victory.
Clark and veteran Rowe battled for the lead for the majority of the race. It seemed apparent that Rowe had the car to beat in the event, but Clark proved that he had the best car in the field. It was Clark’s second win of the 2013 season and with the win, he is now the only driver in the series to repeat.
