Canaan, NH. – The Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, Maine this Saturday night, August 3, and history just may repeat itself.
In seven previous appearances at the famed third-mile oval, Beech Ridge offered up six first-time winners in one way or another. An interesting twist as New England’s premier modified series, chosen the top touring division by Speed 51.com readers, heads up Route 95 to do battle in a 100-lap green flag feature race.
Buxton, Maine veteran David Pinkham scored his first VMRS series win driving the Gary Casella #25 for the first time. The year after saw Dale Evonsion win his first and only VMRS race beating Pinkham to the checkers.
Kirk Alexander won his first VMRS race at Beech Ridge. The following season (2008) Mother Nature claimed bragging rights, her first.
2009 was a banner year for Jon McKennedy as he added his first win at “The Ridge” to his championship run. A year later Ken Barry notched his first-time series win and a first for his well-known Hall-of-Fame father Art Barry at Beech Ridge.
And in 2011, Mike Holdridge added his name to the VMRS history book with his first ever career score.
Now the question is whose next. Will it happen again? The way this season has gone, it could.
Top point men, Tommy Barrett of Millis, MA., Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA., Richard Savary, of Canton, MA., Louie Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, MA., and Norm Wrenn, of Nashua, NH., are expected. Both Savary and Wrenn are looking for their first series win.
Others expected to enter include Pinkham, McKennedy, Holdridge, two-times series champion, Chris Pasteryak, Westbrook, Maine, driver Tony Ricci, Rob Goodenough, and Anthony Nocella. Pasteryak has had a good month of July. The same can be said for Nocella.
Qualifying races start at 6:00 PM
