Eddie “The Outlaw” MacDonald of Rowley, MA came from 11th on the field to take the win in the American Canadian Tour 150-lap event at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 17. MacDonald held off fierce competition over the final 13 lap sprint to take the victory.

MacDonald took over the lead from Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. after starting in the outside lane on a lap 131 restart. It looked like MacDonald would win easily until the fourth and final caution of the event flew on lap 137. This setup up the final battle with MacDonald and Polewarczyk on the front row followed by rookies Bobby Therrien and Travis Stearns.

Therrien made a veteran move to the inside of MacDonald following the restart, kicking Polewarczyk back to third. The Rookie and the Outlaw battled with Therrien on the inside and MacDonald trying to keep him pinched down. The pair raced door-to-door with Therrien gaining the edge at the line for the lead on two laps. MacDonald kept the momentum on the outside and dispatched Therrien with two to go. It then turned into a three-way fight for the runner-up spot as Polewarczyk, Therrien and Stearns took the checkered flag three-wide.

Polewarczyk and Therrien got the edge to take second and third respectively. Stearns and Jimmy Hebert completed the top five. Ray Parent, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Dave Farrington, Jr. were the final three cars on the lead lap. Farrington led the first 111 laps of the event and lapped the majority of the field as the event went caution free from lap 6 til 124. He built a large lead before Polewarczyk caught him in heavy lapped traffic. Aaron Fellows and Ryan Deane completed the top ten.

With his win Eddie MacDonald earns an invitation to the 5th Annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 21. MacDonald is a two-time Invitational winner including the inaugural event back in 2009.

The American Canadian Tour heads back north of the border next Saturday, August 24 for the 11th event of their 14 event 2013 schedule. They will visit Circuit Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, Quebec for the Riverside Can-Am 200. It is a combination race with sister series, Série ACT Castrol.

Former Lee USA Speedway Late Model and NASCAR New England Regional champion Ricky Wolf, Jr. collected his second win of the 2013 season after an impressive run in the Benson Lumber and Hardware sponsored 30-lap feature event for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block Supermodifieds at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night.

Backing up his first win in the open-wheelers back on July 12, Wolf quickly got past polesitter Leslie Keyser to assume the lead, and he never looked back, leading every lap on the way to a crowded victory lane celebration with his legion of fans, known at the speedway as “The Wolfpack“.

A multi-time winner in 2013, Mike Netishen had a solid run, but the best he could do was to chase Wolf to the checkers for a runner-up finish this time out. Mike Spurling scored another podium finish in the third spot, with fourth going to Jake Stergios, and fifth to points leader Tommy Tombarello, Jr. Moe Lattime, Ryan Gath, Keyser, Sparky MacIver, and Dan Martineau rounded out the top ten finishers.

Wolf and Netishen were victorious in the qualifying heats, which hit the track one car short after popular veteran “Super Dave” Sanborn took a hard hit in the backstretch retaining wall during practice. The incident caused serious damage to Super’s racecar, and sent him home in need of major repairs.

In the Prime Storage and Warehouse Late Model Sportsman main, it was defending champion J.R. Baril’s night to shine once again, and he also took advantage of a front row starting spot to lead every lap of the feature event and score his third win of the year in the Brian House entry.

Baril ran virtually uncontested all the way, with former champ Grant Aither coming on strong in the late laps to checker second. Aither’s teammate Ricky Porter scored a solid third place finish, with Bobby Melvin, Jimmy Russell, Michele Fushpanski, Ryan Green, Niko Maniatis, Ray Dinsmore, and Patrick Stewart the remainder of the top ten.

Chris Jacobson posted his first win of the 2013 campaign in the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stock feature event, passing pole sitter Torrey Kovalesky to grab the lead early in the race, and holding off all challengers to pick up his first checkered flag of the season.

Brian DeStefano had his best run of the year to finish in the second spot, with Wade Worster holding on to collect third place honors ahead of Paul Palen. Palen battled hard with Worster in the late laps, but had to settle for fourth at the stripe, followed by Patrick Tanguay, Dennis Dumas, Jim Piaseczny, Eric Hoffman, Kovalesky, and Ron Washburn.

Hannah Shaw was the early leader in the American Used Auto Parts Ironman main, but she eventually lost the top spot to newcomer Floyd Bennett, who went on to easily score the win. Tyler Mitchell finished second, followed by Shane Horvath in his brand new “Silver Bullet”, Shaw, Zach Washburn, Wayne Osborne, Evan Horvath, Travis Hollins, and Austin Elliott.

George Helliwell topped another strong field of E Keys 4 Cars Northeast Classic Lites to claim the latest round of the DJB Trucking Series, with Ken Goodreault, Duane Skofield, Eddie Gilman, and Dan Poliquin finishing up the top five.

This Friday night, August 23rd under the lights Lee will be hosting the Lance Davis Memorial Late Model Sportsman Shoot-Out presented by Prime Storage Warehouse and Storage along with the Small Block Supers, Hobby Stocks and Ironman Series. Racing will begin at 7PM. If you need any further information call 978-462-4252.

Adam Norton won his fourth Sportsman Modified feature race of the summer Saturday, August 17, at Monadnock Speedway and, on the six-division card of racing, Young Gun Joel Monahan earned his first career victory lap.

Other winners at the high-banked quarter-mile included Super Stock rookie Tom Carey III, who won the third event of his freshman season, and Marshall Usher, victorious for the second time in the Thunder Stocks. Mike Parker topped the 50-lap NE Mini Stock Tour main event, and Brandon Trezzi carried the checkers in the NE Champ Kart feature.

Joey Kendall paced the sizzling field for the first four laps of the Sportsman Modified feature, then giving way to Adam Norton. Tyler Jarvenpaa grabbed the deuce spot on lap eight, with Bill Kimball following him forward to snatch third a lap later.

Kimball took second from Jarvenpaa on lap 15, and the trio would run nose to tail the final 15 laps, with Norton holding strong to score his fourth win of the season. Kimball came home second, with Jarvenpaa, Kendall, and Danny Stebbins rounding out the top five.

Kimball’s runner-up finish allowed him to boost his division points lead over Jarvenpaa. Brian Chapin, on the other hand, saw his championship aspirations take another punch in the gut when his engine uncorked, a week after his car was badly wrecked in a horrendous crash along the back chute.

Josh Wood and Tyler Lescord hit the stripe even as lap one went in the books in the Super Stock main. A lap later, Wood had taken the point and immediately begun to stretch his lead over Lescord and Robert Hagar.

John Lavoie, from row four, was on the charge from the top of the track, pulling into third just before the leading Wood abruptly slowed and disappeared pit side. Wood’s demise put Lescord in the lead, with Lavoie then shadowing him for three laps until taking control.

Lescord’s strong run would go to waste on 18, when he slammed the turn two wall after contact with a spinning car, then ricocheted into the infield grass, heavily damaging Bill Johnston’s ride as he caromed off the wall.

Lavoie and Eddie Brehio III crossed the stripe dead even on laps 19 and 20, with Tom Carey III glued to their bumpers. Lavoie opened the door ever so little on lap 23, with Carey muscling his way under the leader and then running out the race from the point.

With Carey winning his second feature in as many weeks, and the third of his rookie campaign, Lavoie was strong in the runner-up slot, and Brehio used his third-place finish to expand his points lead. Hagar and Craig Smith completed the top five.
Cole Littlewood set the pace on lap one of the Young Guns feature, with Mike McGoldrick Jr. and Joel Monahan close behind. Monahan grabbed the lead on lap two, and then ran out the race from the point to win his first-ever feature.

McGoldrick and Littlewood traded the deuce spot for the balance of the race, with Littlewood holding it the last six laps to score a hard-earned runner-up finish. McGoldrick finished in his shadow to come home third, with Cameron Sontag and Sonja Carey rounding out the top five.

Danny Field set a fast pace through the first 16 laps of the NE Mini Stock tour 50-lapper, with former Monadnock strongman Toby Wells rocketing from his row-six starting position to seize control on lap 17.

Lady Luck would not be riding in Wells’ car on this Saturday though. Holding off Mike Parker and Emerson Cayer for 33 laps, the Dublin, NH pilot had the checkers in sight when his ride abruptly threw a wheel in turn four of the final lap.

With Wells suddenly hobbled, Parker led Cayer under the checkers to score his first Monadnock win ever. Cayer was second to add to his Tour points lead, with steady Danny Field coming home third. Wells was able to salvage a fourth-place finish, with Glen Thomas rounding out the top five.

Jason Barden had built up a big lead over the first 20 laps of the Thunder Stock feature, then seeing it all go to waste when ridden into the backchute wall. Barden’s misfortune was all Marshall Usher needed to grab the lead and dash off to his second win of the summer.

Steady Joe Ethier finished his hard night’s work in second, with Tyler Janovsky coming home third. Paul Barnard and Henry Martin rounded out the top five.
In the NE Champ Karts event, Brandon Trezzi used a slick last-lap drafting pass to score the win. Scott Foster was second.

This Saturday, August 24, New England’s fastest high-banked quarter-mile will present a six-division card of racing, highlighted by the Victor Johnson Memorial 100 presented by Swanzey Oil, featuring the stars and cars of the Valenti Modified Racing Series.

The Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Lightning Stocks, and Young Guns will all be in action too, with post time at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.monadnockspeedway.com.

In a crazy night at Riverside Speedway, the NEMA Midgets had an up and down night.

The NEMA Lites were in town with the big boys, and had a great show in the works, running their Ford Focus, Ecotec, and Quad 4 motors around the track with lap times in the low 12 second range. On lap 10, everything began to unravel. Ryan Bigelow went off the track in turn one, and as the caution came out, Avery Stoehr and Scott Bigelow connected on the backstretch, sending Bigelow careening end over end into turn three. By the time the dust cleared, the red flag was thrown, and EMT’s were on the scene. Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but were alert and responsive.

When the dust cleared and the race went back under green, PJ Stergios had driven his Union Square Management automobile to the win on the outside groove. “K-Man” Kevin Hutchens would motor to second, and Danny Cugini drove to a third place finish.

The full NEMA midgets also had a spectacular night. Anthony “Bug” Marvuglio was certainly the car to beat, posting an unofficial lap time earlier in the night of 10.9 seconds. Marvuglio attempted to put Todd Bertrand a lap down on lap 17, when the two made contact coming out of turn two, sending Marvuglio hard into the backstretch wall. Marvuglio would take a trip in the ambulance as well, but under his own power. When the race went back to green, point leader John Zych JR, inherited the lead and would motor on to the win. Atkinson, NH’s Jim Chambers would pick up the second spot, and Randy Cabral nabbed third.

Riverside Speedway sends best wishes to the NEMA competitors involved in the incidents on Saturday.

Luke Shannon made it three in a row in the North Country Ford Late Model division. Shannon started on the tail end of the field, and after multiple incidents, found him on the outside of Corey Mason on a lap 37 restart, who was looking to pick up his second triple crown of the season. Corey Mason would hold on to finish second, with his brother Bryan Mason completing the podium. Randy Potter and Steve Patnaude rounded out the top five.

The Town and Country Inn and Resort Street Stocks saw another first time winner pick up the checkers. Jared Plumley took the lead early, and ran strong enough to fend off point leader Jamie Heath. This was Plumley’s first career Street Stock win. Heath would settle for second, and “Stormin” Keith Normand took third after returning to racing action. Youngster Anthony LaCoss and Dana Graham rounded out the top five.

The DK-N-Sons Pure Stocks saw Jay Bennett pick up another feature win. Bennett went three wide at the beginning of the race to jump into the battle for the lead with point leader James Record. Record would find the podium and take second, with two-time feature winner Nick Miller finishing third. Dave Glidden and Richie Veilleux finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Sierra Moulton took a hard hit in the Ouellette Trucking Angels as her Chevy Cavalier slapped the front stretch wall midway through the feature event. When the dust cleared, Tina Leveille engaged in a battle with Jenna Randall. Leveille would avenge her roll-over from last week to pick up the checkered flag. Randall would settle for second, and Jaime Carbone would complete the podium. Point leader Vanessa Brown and Nicole Ouellette completed the top five.

Matthew Kopp picked up another win in the Marshall Insurance Agency Daredevils division. Kopp fended off Dylan “The Dragon” Laleme, who would finish second for the third week in a row. Anthony Benoit and Zack Savage finished third and fourth respectively.

Caaden Markwell bested 20 other competitors to win the Kid’s Coloring Contest. The Ouellette Trucking Angels women were the guest judges, and had a hard decision to make, but picked Caaden’s “Rainbow Race Car” as the top drawing.

Next week, on Saturday August 24th, 100 laps are on schedule for the North Country Ford Late Models. All divisions will be on hand, including “Team Challenge Night”. The top five in the Late Models, Limited Late Models, Streets, Angels, and Pure Stocks will all be thrown into a hat, and one from each division will make 5 random teams for a chance at $250 and plaques for each of the drivers.
