Kenny MacKenzie Jr. did something on Saturday night his father has never been able to do at Speedway 660. Junior won his DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock Division heat, dash and feature.
“Dad won back to back Martins Home Heating Sportsman championships here at Speedway 660, but he never won his heat, dash and feature on the same night” said a jubilant Kenny MacKenzie Jr. from the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. “This is awesome, as a rookie I never expected to have this kind of success this quickly and it sure is a big boost to my confidence to win a feature race in my first year in this strong street stock division.”
It was an all-rookie podium in the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock Division. Justin Cole finished 2nd and rookie point leader Luc MacLaughlin came home third. MacLaughlin won the other heat race.
Dave O’Blenis won the RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock feature and dash on Saturday night. But O’Blenis was challenged by short-track racing legend Ben Rowe for the feature win. Rowe, driving “Hurricane” Hal O’Neal’s car, put pressure on O’Blenis late in the race before finishing third, behind 2nd place Paul Gahan. Rowe and Brian Gillespie won the Pro Stock heat races.
“We came up here tonight to get ready for the Auto Value 250 and Hal’s crew gave me a great car, we just needed a long run at the end to be able to really challenge Dave” said Rowe who drove up from Turner, Maine for the race. “It is always a lot of fun racing door to door with Dave O’Blenis, he’s got a million laps under his belt at Speedway 660 and he’s a great guy to race against, hopefully we’ll have something for him and the rest of the guys in the Auto Value 250.”
Brent Roy finally had reason to smile in the Martins Home Heating Sportsman Division. After finishing second in both the Firecracker 150 and the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100, the Camry Kid finally got to victory lane. Roy won his heat race before beating George Jamieson and Greg Fahey to the stripe to win the feature. Randy Moore won the other heat race and the dash.
The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature was a wild affair on Saturday night. When all was said and done Brian Suley parked his machine in the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. Jeremy Doran drove home second, while Neil Miousse claimed third. James Courtney and Courtney Barton won the heat races.
Craig MacDonald from Waverley, Nova Scotia came to Speedway 660 on Saturday night to get some seat time in preparation for SpeedWeekend. Craig, celebrating a birthday, drove to a dramatic win in the West Wood Estate Apartments Bandolero Division. Young Craig made a last lap pass on Courtney O’Blenis to win the feature. Courtney, who won her heat race finished second in the feature, while Cole Tanner came third. MacKenzie Brewer won the other Bando heat race.
Next weekend Speedway 660 will hold its popular Fan Appreciation Night of Champions and in two weeks SpeedWeekend 2013 will take center stage.
