Waterbury, VT –The American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced the second edition of the International 300 stock car race to be held at the Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. Sunday, July 20 is the date that has been set for the second edition of the biggest seasonal short track event for the popular ACT Late Models from both the United States and Canada. The event will pay $25,000.00 to the winner of the unique “Milk Bowl” style event. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (Pole) is the reigning champion.
“It was really amazing to pull off that win a year ago at Airborne. I feel lucky to be the winner of a Thunder Road Milk Bowl and a Governor’s Cup, an Oxford 250, and this new International race at Airborne. The track races great with the ACT Late Model cars, it’s fast, wide, and very racy. No question that first place also pays well,” said a smiling Joey Pole.
There will be some changes to the format in 2014. The event will retain the traditional three segments which crown the overall winner, but the segments will be shortened to 50 in the first segment and 75 in both the second and third segments. The overall low score will win the $25,000.00, plus lap money.
“We have taken what we learned a year ago and plan to change some formatting,” said Promoter Tom Curley. “Sometimes less is more, and in this case, fewer laps have proven to be better for the teams and fans, especially in segment racing where there is only one strategy –go as fast as you can from green to checkers in each segment! Actually, following the race last year, a number of teams asked that the laps be reduced when we return to Airborne, and subsequently, we also brought the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road back to its original 50 lap segments. We are really looking forward to the second edition, especially with all the new young teams who don’t need to win any segments, just finish consistently up front for an overall low score and have a chance to win the $25,000.00 dollars,” concluded Curley.
Joining the racing program will be the ACT sanctioned Pro-Cam Trucks from Quebec and the Sportsman Modified cars from Airborne and Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, VT. Each division will race a 50-lap feature. The popular Renegade division from Airborne will also be part of the race program.
Entries will be sent to teams during the first week in June for the July 20th summer spectacle at what has become one of the ACT drivers’ favorite race facilities.
