BRADFORD, VT – Multi-winner USAC DMA Midget entrant Adam Pierson wasted not time reminding the pack that he will be a contender for the 2014 championship with his dominate performance opening night at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday, winning the 25-lap USAC DMA Midget double points feature on KDD Napa night. Pierson, of Fairlee, VT, started tenth on the grid and took the lead on lap 4, rolling to an easy win. Jeff Champagne and last year’s defending champion Joe Krawiec came across the line 2nd and 3rd.
A wild ride by Denny Zimmerman former INDY Rookie of the year would bring out the red flag, Zimmerman was a-okay and racing would resume with little incident. Rounding out the top five were Anthony Nocella and Josh Sunn.
Louie Cadwell of Vershire, VT was the dominate contender looking unstoppable until an altercation with a lapped car took him out of contention. Thomas Placey of Bradford, VT would take the lead of the DIRTcar sanctioned Pro Stock Sportsman Coupes late and held off the competition until a late race yellow bunched up the field once again. When racing resumed it was a green/white/checker finish with Teddy Salomaa ready to pounce when Placey slipped up coming out of four on the white lap giving Salomaa the lead going into one. Salomaa would hold on to take the checkers, with Placey coming home in second. Last years runner up in the points standing Jason Colbeth of Newbury, VT took the third place podium position.
Jason Giguere worked extra hard to make it to victory lane on opening night, which gave James Fadden of Plainfield NH the opportunity to capitalize on Giguere’s misfortune. Giguere and Rob Williams of Meriden NH were charging their way to the front when Willams got in the back of Giguere turning them both bringing out the caution. Fadden starting on the point with the heavy hitters in the back held on thru another caution seeing Giguere once again going to the rear in what appeared to be an altercation with yet another driver. With very few laps to go Giguere sailed to the front of the pack but would run out laps being able to only make it to the second place position. Fadden claimed his first win of his career in the Late Models. Rob Williams also coming from the back would claim third.
The Weglarz Property Service Fast Fours and KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornet action was rain delayed their feature will be run on May 10th.
The DIRTcar sanctioned Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds were able to get eighteen laps in before the rains finally took over. When racing resumes on May 10th the remaining laps will be completed.
