SAM BETTS TOPS WACKY WEDNESDAY MODIFIED ENDUROS
Sam Betts of Brewer won his first feature race of the season in the Modified 4/6/8 cylinder class at Speedway 95 on Friday night when the make-up race from a July 2 rain out was run. Betts started on the outside pole for the 20 lap event and took the lead from Bangor’s Scott Bonny on the second lap. Betts led the way to the checkers, finishing ahead of Hermon’s Andrew Crosby, who finished second and last week’s winner, Travis Beale of Hampden, who came from an eleventh place start to finish third. Fourth went to Hermon’s Rhonda Crain, a past champion in the former Ladies Division, and Brownville’s Dustin Lancaster was fifth. The race went the full 20 laps without a caution.
Trey Brown of Winterport led the Stars of Tomorrow from the pole to the checkers in a 15 lap feature stopped only once by the caution flag. Marcus Dunn of Newburgh took second on the last lap, passing Caleb Kalel of Stillwater as the pair came out of turn four, headed for the checkers. Kalel finished third after a strong run with Brewer’s Alexis Roach finishing fourth. Nicholas Cota of Greenfield was fifth.
Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon won his first feature of the season in the full size pick up trucks, holding off Corinth’s Peter Drake for the win ion a caution free 20 lap race. Drake finished second with Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton coming home third. Fourth went to Hermon’s Andrew Crosby with Orrington driver Dana Harlow finishing fifth.
Zach Audet of Skowhegan showed he’s the guy to beat in the stock 4/6/8 cylinder as he powered by Ed Archer Jr. of Clinton on a lap 13 restart to take the win. Archer had led the first 13 laps, with Audet on his bumper, until the yellow slowed the action. When the green flew again, Audet took the lead and had to hold off a hard charging Ken Ogden of Seal Cove, who came from fourth to second before the field reached turn one on the restart. Ogden finished in second, followed by Jordan Harnish of Veazie in third. Archer finished in fourth with Robert Caruso of Kenduskeag in fifth. Although the event was stopped only once for a stalled car on the backstretch, the action was lively as three wide racing was seen all over the track.
Following the regular racing program, Zach Audet won both ends of the stunt racing program, with a win in the Tag Team race, teamed with Ed Archer, and the ramp race, which concluded the night’s racing. In the Tag Team event, Jordan Harnish and Henry Boudreau finished second, with the team of Brian Folsom and Nate Hatch finishing third. Gilbert Ogden and Bradley Norris teamed up for a fourth place finish with Roger Smith and Ken Ogden finishing fifth. In the ramp race, Jordan Harnish finished second to Audet, with Henry Boudreau in third. Fourth went to Matt Kimball of Cornville with Brian Folsom of St. Albans in fifth.
