Story by Chris Roy
Travis Poulliot, of Madison, Maine has been spending a lot of time over the winter getting ready for the green flag to fly. “This offseason has been busier than ever, acquiring a new car for 2015 and making plans for the 2015 race season.”
Travis is doing double duty this race season racing at two different tracks Speedway 95 and Wiscasset Speedway. “We will be running Speedway 95 and Wiscasset during 2015. We will be starting the season in Hermon, (Speedway 95) and at the very least attending the 75 lapper at Wiscasset. Our major goal is to run up front consistently and be a contender for the win every week. I love how big and how fast Wiscasset is and the atmosphere is great. I’ve never set tires on Speedway 95 so that’ll be a new thing this year as well.”
In the off season the drivers and race teams spend a lot of their time, working on the cars and getting sponsors for the 2015 race season. “Sponsors are a huge part of racing, in two ways, one being the back bone of how I make to the track every week and racing gives them a unique way for them to promote their business within the community and at the track. I have been working on a few from last year but none have signed back on as of yet. I do have one new sponsor for this season, Northeast Performance and Repair out of Norridgewock.
So how much work goes into setting up the cars for each track? “I’ll have to tell you when I figure that out, I’ve never ran two different tracks in a year so it’ll be a learning curve for me for sure.”
The race teams have to be dedicated work on the car all week in the shop, then working in the pits at the track. “You have to be dedicated every week, races are won in the garage. Oil changes, nut and bolt every week.”
