Tasha Dyer, of Arrowsic, ME., will be back this season racing in the Super Streets Series, at Wiscasset Speedway. So what has the driver of the #32 car been doing in the off season? “Traveling the eastern seaboard, spending time with friends & family and getting ready for the 2015 racing season!”
Opening day at Wiscasset for the Super Streets in on April 18th, so is the 32 car all set for the green flag? “No, unfortunately. We’re just getting my new car out of the snow bank this weekend.”
The race divisions at Wiscasset Speedway are divided into two groups which alternating racing every other week. “Being a racer, my ideal schedule is to race every weekend. However, with the possibility of wrecking and having a life outside of racing, having the week in between every race gives us time to work on the car after a bad wreck and have some family time in between.”
Last season Tasha had an impressive 3rd place finish in points in the Strictly Streets Series at Wiscasset Speedway. “2014 was definitely an up and down season for us. It was my first year never capturing a feature win. With that being said, we had plenty of mechanical failures resulting in less than satisfactory finishes in a handful of races, putting us back in 3rd place for the championship title. Regardless of our finish in the points, we brought the best piece of equipment every week, and was able to compete with the best Strictly Street drivers in the state.”
With success at Wiscasset Speedway Tasha, knows how to get the car to the podium, “Patience and momentum.”
Q. Last season Wiscasset Speedway, made improvements to the track making it wider on the back stretch. “The widening of the back stretch didn’t really improve the racing surface. The only benefit of the wall being pushed back, was added space to save the car from a spin or avoiding a wreck.”
Safety in the car and on the track is important, it can be the diference between walking away from the track or a ride in the ambulance. “Safety is the first thing that comes to mind when strapping in the race car. My team always makes sure my car is safe, from the roll cage and seat, to the gloves on my hands.”
Changes in racing over time is just part of evolution of racing, “Since Vanessa & Richard purchased the race track, I’ve seen improvements in every aspect of that facility. The staff is always on their game, tech has stepped up and done their job, the fan count grows more and more every weekend as well as the car count. Every track is a long way from perfect, but Richard & Vanessa are doing a heck of a job to get Wiscasset back on the map. I’m proud to call Wiscasset my home track!”
