Speedway95NEW WINNERS HIGHLIGHT WACKY WEDNESDAY FINALE

Two new faces appeared in victory lane Wednesday night at Speedway 95 and two other drivers ended long winless streaks as the 2015 Varney Buick-GMC-Mazda Wacky Wednesday season came to a close.

In the Road Runners, Keith Drost of Stetson took the lead from Bradley’s Sam Betts on lap 17 of the 20 lap feature and won his first race of the season, besting a field of 37 cars that was reduced to less than 20 at the finish. The red flag flew three times during the race, the last time on lap 12 in an incident that sent three drivers to the hospital for observation. Steve Kimball of Holden also got by Betts in the closing laps to finish second with Betts finishing third. Fourth went to Abel Leamur of Winterport with Michael Palmer of Winterport finishing fifth. Betts won the 2015 points championship in the division.

In the Modified Enduros, Dustin Lancaster of Milo led all 20 laps to post his fourth win of the season, ending a winless streak that started following his last win on July 1. Behind Lancaster, Danielle Beale of Hampden clinched the season’s points championship in the division with a second place finish, after a race long battle with Scott Bonney of Stetson for the spot. Bonney finished third, followed by Sam Betts of Bradley in fourth and Frankfort’s Alex Runci in fifth.

Scott Hunt Jr. of Glenburn won a hotly contested Stars of Tomorrow feature over perennial winner Marcus Dunn of Newburgh, as the two battled side by side following a restart with two to go. Dunn finished second, and won the season’s points title in the process. Nicholas Cota of Greenfield finished third, with Orono’s Cody Farnsworth and Holden’s Jordan Kimball rounding out the top five. Hunt’s last win came on July 15, when he again beat Dunn to the line.

In the Stunt race of the night, Anthony Miles of Winterport passed Scott Steele of Frankfort with two to go in the 10 lap reverse direction race, which sent the cars around the track in a clockwise direction. Steele finished second, with Kevin Seekins of Frankfort in third. Henry Boudreau of Winterport finished fourth and Newburgh’s Dustin Durrell finished fifth.
