PASS North championship leader DJ Shaw best in Speedway 51 Super Late Model test
Rich Oxford 250 Pro All Stars Series National Championship race up next
Groveton, NH – DJ Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire raced to his second Pro All Stars Series North Super Late Model victory of the season Saturday night in the Creative Counters 151 at Speedway 51 in Groveton, New Hampshire.
Shaw, a two-time PASS North Super Late Model champion, remained atop the 2018 championship standings with his win, but little was added to his lead as his Precision JLM / Mulkern Excavating machine was followed under the checkered flag by Travis Benjamin of Belfast, Maine, currently ranked second in the PASS North Super Late Model standings.
Garrett Hall of Scarborough, Maine took a turn in front of the field, leading the race before Shaw took command and pulled away from the pack. Hall hung on to post a third-place finish after Benjamin claimed the runner-up spot late in the 151-lap race. Derek Ramstrom of Worcester, Massachusetts prevailed in an entertaining battle for fourth position versus Derek Griffith of Hudson, New Hampshire.
Hinesburg, Vermont’s Bobby Therrien battled back into sixth position after running afoul of officials when adjudged to have jumped a restart twice in the middle portion of the race while trying to fend off four-time series champion Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine. Rowe ended up eighth, behind Tamworth, New Hampshire’s Jeremy Davis. Kyle Welch of Lempster and Whitefield’s Sammy Gooden rounded out the top ten.
Defending PASS Mods champion Ben Tinker nailed down his fourth victory of the season to remain on top of the championship standings in the Pro All Stars Series Northern open-wheel class. Tinker took the lead away from Bruce Helmuth of Wales, who had an impressive run in the main event after a practice crash nearly ended his night before it really got started.
Billy Dixon of Waterboro, Maine charged into contention and chased Tinker under the checkered flag, with Helmuth claiming the third-place trophy. Heat race winner Gary Shackford of Center Conway, New Hampshire was fourth in the 40-lapper, followed by Jariet Harrison of Freeport, Maine.
The next Pro All Stars Series North event is the 45th Annual Clarks Scrap Metals Oxford 250, scheduled for Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, August 26 at 1:30 p.m. Oxford Plains Speedway is located at 877 Main Street, on Route 26, in Oxford, Maine.
